Tumble Dryer Safety Alert
- Jay W (10th Feb 2016 - 20:47:53)

Just in case you don't know, some hotpoint, indesit and creda tumble dryers are at risk of catching fire and should not be left to run alone. If you want to check if yours is affected (and request a safety repair to correct the problem) go to safety.hotpoint.eu

I registered in December but have still not been contacted for repair. After recent house fire in Guildford caused by one of these tumble dryers am considering just buying another, although it's a shame as it's a good dryer and I can't really afford it. Has anyone actually had the repair carried out by Whirlpool (the new parent company)?

I had an email last week offering a repair or a replacement dryer of the same spec for a big discount. Repair time estimate was March .

I opted for the replacement new dryer for £99 rather than wait for the engineer. It has been swapped over and now happy. The old one was taken away from scrap by the delivery team.

I have had the repair on my dryer. I registered at the end of Nov ,I was told I would have to wait 5weeks. It was about that when they phoned to arrange for the engineer to call which I was given a date for the job to be done, it took about an hour . Sorry to hear that you have not heard from them.

I would just like to add that it is inadvisable to run any tumble dryer, washing machine or dishwasher overnight or to leave one running when you go out.

All white goods appliances are a potential fire risk, not just those that have recently been highlighted in news reports.

We haven't been offered reduced price replacement - just had initial email reply after registering. Might hang on a bit longer. Tried to phone free phone number on original letter but permanently engaged.

Not really sure what they expect you to do if it does catch fire while you're watching it - I won't be able to carry outside like my friend did! Might investigate fire blanket or extinguisher and fire brigade on speed dial .

Jay W - thank you for your warning. I had no idea about this safety alert. Turns out our tumble dryer is one of the ones effected. I've filled out the online form and should be hearing from someone for a repair in the next 8 weeks.

Thanks again!

I received my replacement tumble dryer today.
Paid £99 for the Condenser (they're offering 2 models, one a Condenser & the other vented for £59)

Ordered it last Thursday so not long to wait for delivery. So, once you actually get through to the Hotpoint call centre, the process from then on isn't too long if you're buying the discounted replacement.

However, if you're having it repaired I believe there have been some instances where people have been told to wait until August/ September (not enough Engineers to go around!), but if you complain to Hotpoint about the wait they have in some cases offered a free replacement machine instead.

Just heard an alarming story that the "new" tumble dryer they ask you to pay for could be a reconditioned one. Nikki, suggest you check serial number on their website and apparently reconditioned ones should be marked with green sticker? Will try and find where story came from.

Just to say I eventually emailed the CEO as I'd heard nothing. Same day received email offering new dryer for £99 or repair which would not be until July. Emailed again and my repair was booked in within the week plus engineer turned up when they said he would. So if anyone needs CEO email, let me know, although there is a website where you can find email addresses for most CEOs - very handy!
