Builder recommendations
- SJC (27th Nov 2015 - 11:12:51)

We are considering an extension to our house in Liphook and I'm hoping this forum can help with some recommendations.

The previous owners had already extended the property and we now need some advice as to how much further we could extend. We believe that there may be restrictions due to drainage issues.

I would be grateful for advice as to who would be able to assess the property and let me know whether an extension is feasible.

Could a local builder do this or would it be the council? If a builder, any recommendations from others who have had an extension?

Hi

The planning office can give you advice on planning your can find a lot of answers on google especially around if it's already extended, how much further out can you go. However if it's drainage and that type of thing that concerns you, then a builder would be best placed to advise on that aspect.

I am a local builder and more than happy to come out and have a look and give you some advice.

You can then decide whether to go ahead or not and get quotes from other builders etc.

Feel free to call me on 01420 729702 or 07747 043794

Thanks

You will need a chartered surveyor or architect to advise you on an application for planning permission. This could be more tricky than usual depending on what you are planning as your property has already been extended. The drainage will not be a planning consideration but will become a building regulation issue and may involve a build over licence from the water board, again, employing the correct person in the first place will save you alot of pain and suffering later on and finding out the various pitfalls as you go. Once you have planning and building regs approval you could then go about sourcing a builder for quotes and proceed that way.
By the way I manage a building company in Godalming and if you want some sound advice make a plan and stick to it, changing your mind whilst building can be costly!

I also use Alan wakeford builders, they stayed to there quote for the building they done for me!!!! The extras I wanted on top they gave me a quote for each extra job to give me the choice, so I knew exactly what I was paying for. Nothing is to much trouble, it's the first builder that I totally trusted to do everything I wanted
