Daisy's Tearoom?
- Stacey Carter (26th Nov 2015 - 19:13:03)

So I've just recently arrived back from an extremely long holiday and as the weather is freezing here I thought I'd treat myself to an orange hot chocolate at Daisy's. Where is Michelle? I did ask but the staff seemed extremely sheepish so didn't push them for an answer.

Its been bought by a great guy called Dave who has also taken over the outside catering. Good Luck to you and your team, we hope liphook gets behind you and supports you, the village seems to be having a really hard time.

I have only been into the cute little coffee shop a handful of times and it was lovely, haven't been in since Michelle has left. It's a real shame she had to go - I thought she did really well making it a better place with extremely friendly staff!

- Jean (27th Nov 2015 - 08:46:07)

Since retiring I have visited the tea rooms twice a week with friends for a catch up but not anymore. It's not the same in there now. When Daisy was there the atmosphere was great and it was the same with Michelle.

I have to say that the move around in there is better than it was before. On a recent visit The toilets were filthy and there was no soap in the loo, the girls are lovely and polite but David I found unpleasant.

Will not be visiting there again. It's now a twice weekly meet up with the girls at our homes. Least here we get a decent cuppa and friendly atmosphere.

Hello

i have sold the tearoom on due to personal reason. i am very sad to see it go and miss all the friendly face, but i have every faith in David to make an ongoing success of it. so pleas support him as you did me.

I have also visited the tearoom recently and I have to agree with jean, I found the owner very unpleasant and the atmosphere was very dull.

I have been going to Daisys for lunch at least once a week for the past year or so as I am lucky enough to work from home one day a week.
Whilst I was disappointed when I heard it had changed hands I would add that the new owners are now finding their feet.
They are friendly and chatty, I would hope that any disappointments some have found may be put down to teething problems and the new people getting up to speed.
I will continue to support this place as it is a rarity amongst the big chains and a nice haven from everyday life :-)

I have been a customer of the tea rooms for many years, daisy and Michelle ran the place wonderfully and made you feel very welcome and always had time for a chat. I visited recently and wasn't impressed at all. The new owner hasn't got good customer service skills worked out yet. The young girl Charlotte is chatty though. Will most definitely not be visiting there again.

I still think it's lovely for a coffee and a cake. I haven't had lunch there, buy it's lovely as a coffee shop for a half hour stop. The waitresses were very pleasant and chatty (I have not experienced the owner) and the new layout is much better.

I have been a regular customer at Daisy’s since I moved here a few years ago and have seen 4 different owners. I pop in a few times most weeks and I have always had excellent service, lovely freshly prepared food and drinks.
Please remember that these are young people who have chosen to invest in Liphook, and are working hard to build a business and keep one more shop with a village feel going.

- david (27th Nov 2015 - 21:32:54)

Hi all,
My name is David and I am the new owner of daisy tea rooms . I am sorry some of you have had a bad experience in the tea rooms, I'm a bit confused about people saying that I've come across rude and don't have people skills. The reason I'm confused is that I'm not there much because of other work commitments.we do have a regular customer that sits out the back in front of the counter you could be confusing him with me. the last thing i want to do is upset customers in the tea rooms because I need you to keep the business going , its hard out there as it is and I am trying my hardest to keep the tea rooms open at a cost to me every month and local people employed.

If anyone would like to contact me with regards to any issues arising from the Tea Rooms then please do not hesitate to contact me. If i am not around then please leave me a message and i will get back you as soon as I can.

I look forward to welcoming you all along to the Tea Rooms

David

Admittedly the place looks a lot better than it ever has done, the move around looks fantastic.
Some advice for the new owner would be to keep his gossiping to a minimum. As it's such a small place it's hard not to hear you, even from the kitchen.
On a positive note The young lady working there was very chatty and polite, the food was ok I guess but wouldn't eat there again.

- William (27th Nov 2015 - 22:22:06)

Ok David I hate to point out the following but you stated and I quote,

I\'m confused is that I\'m not there much because of other work commitments.we do have a regular customer that sits out the back in front of the counter you could be confusing him with me. the last thing i want to do is upset customers. Un quote.

I think you have just insulted that regular customer of yours. People are saying your a very unpleasant man and you say that it might be your regular customer we are confusing you for.
As someone stated earlier I don\'t think your customer service skills are up to scratch.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- david (28th Nov 2015 - 08:44:58)

Hi William.

I'm not saying one of my customer is a unpleasant man at all, he is a very pleasant man as are all my customers. What I am saying is if people think he is me but hes a customer then he has no reason to talk to them . Thats my point. I might be shy but one thing I'm not is rude.

David.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Bill (28th Nov 2015 - 08:58:00)

I haven't been to Daisy's but I now will

It's important local businesses are supported or they go under - we are all entitled to opinions but if you don't raise a concern directly why try to influence people against these businesses?

First the chip shop, then the pub (s), then the burger van, then the tea rooms then the chip shop, then the pubs etc etc

Then the complaint that really it's all the supermarkets fault

End result? A village centre full of estate agents. Now there's a great centre of excellence for customer service for you...

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Chris Parris (28th Nov 2015 - 10:10:12)

I think it's a shame that people in this tiny village need to find some fault or another in a newly opened business - finding its feet, struggling against people commenting above offering negative views or opinions due to the fact it is so easy to become key board warriors. Michelle was a fabulous host and tearoom owner, but often people in the village gave her a kicking and used forums such as this to belittle her hard work, late nights, laughter, tears and every ounce of love she put into that place. David is no different, he's a hard worker, he cares enough about that place to change it around, refresh it, make it more comfortable - as a village we need to get behind small businesses, offer fair and constructive feed back, not 'oh I preferred this person or that person'. If something is wrong, talk to them, don't wait until your masked behind a user name. We are all people, capable of communicating, growing and learning. I see so often people complaining about how lifeless the village is. The tearoom has tried so hard, in so many different masks to offer a life and soul and social place to interact and to indulge in our quaint village. Good luck to the tearoom, good luck to the team. Both are rare pleasures, and due to large corporations they are becoming rarer and rarer.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Trevor (28th Nov 2015 - 11:09:59)

David bought the tea rooms from Michelle and has invested a lot of time and money in the business. He wants to make it a success he would never be rude to anyone. Daisy the manager and all the other staff always seem more than helpful so please don\'t moan about them.
They offer an excellent service so give them a break !
As usual a lot of people seem to use this website to slag off local businesses that are just trying to make an honest living.

- John (28th Nov 2015 - 14:04:14)

Hello.
I'm the regular customer who may well have been confused as the owner. I am currently between jobs and sit in the tearoom most days for a while with an ipad near the counter. I've always found David, the owner, to be very friendly and to go out of his way to chat to all customers when he is in the tearoom. I know also that he is trying very hard to make a tearoom work in a community which doesn't have the largest of footfall and which has to compete with the cheap heated up food at The Anchor and with the lunch snacks at nearby Sainsbury's. I would echo Chris's comments about supporting local small businesses.

I enjoy having a really good cup of cappuccino. They use proper Italian coffee. It's always neat and clean. Lots of space that was not there before. I love the window table and chairs.

I had a brief chat with the new owner, a businessman and he was both professional and accommodating. The ladies efficient and very polite. Great customer service and quiet as I love it for its serenity.

It's difficult to run a coffee shop in the location it is. Customer parking not right there.

Have a heart give the guy a break. Support the shop and come along and make your memories happen here.

When I need to break away from the hussle and bussle of the day's woes...I go for the best cappuccino in the village...my friend Daisy's.

Kind Regards to all.

I wish all local businesses well and use as many of them as possible. However, Ihave actually never used Daisy's tea rooms due to them having a 4 food hygiene rating ( which was low for Non complex food prep) and has now gone down to a 3 at the beginning of November and the less than appealing look of the window which has dog eared posters held up with big strips of masking tape. You can buy really cheap but effective temporary window adhesive dots to display things neatly.

Before the rants of "attacking business'' , I would be more than happy to spend an hour with the owner helping him set up his 'safer foods, better business' essential documentation ready to request a re inspection .....I would also donate the adhesive dots to improve the look of the window.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Jane (11th Dec 2015 - 08:44:46)

A 3 for hygiene rating actually translates as 'generally satisfactory' so I think the previous poster is being a little harsh.

The Anchor only gets a 2 which means 'improvement necessary' - that concerns me more.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- helen (11th Dec 2015 - 11:09:51)

Hi Clare, before you get too hung up about hygiene regs, remember that the ratings cannot be applied to movable vans, eg the burger vans, as they are not inspected at all, due to them operating outside of the hours that the hygiene inspectors will visit, and not having an address to send documentation. I would not like to buy from them at all.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Michelle (11th Dec 2015 - 11:47:58)

Personally I wouldn't eat from anywhere with a rating below 4.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Clare (13th Dec 2015 - 04:51:00)

Helen, I don't get "hung up", I form opinions based on fact and then use my personal value base to decided how I act upon those facts. Facts are they have a three rating when five is simple to achieve and a messy window which includes piles of papers and sloppily affixed posters. My value base then says' not for me'. However, because I want to see all small businesses succeed, I offer to be part of a solution.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Helen (13th Dec 2015 - 10:23:37)

Hi Clare,
I was trying to make the point about the rating system being silly, in light of the environmental health office not being able to inspect burger vans which, if you follow the hygiene principles, ask me to question, where would the staff of the van wash their hands after going to the loo? where would they go to the loo? they are usually only staffed by one person after all.
It is not logical that just because there are untidy windows in the shop front that the hygiene is bad in the back. Most stomach upsets occur because of undercooked burgers, sausage chicken or fish.
I recently had a nasty bout of food poisoning from Cafe Rouge in Farnham, (now closed) I believe their star rating was a 5?

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Clare (14th Dec 2015 - 21:41:17)

As I said Helen, we all use our own value base to make decisions, what I find to be a deal breaker may be of no consequence to another.

Re: Daisy's Tearoom?
- Caterer (16th Dec 2015 - 00:24:08)

This business about EHO ratings is never clearcut. the rating you get is not necessarily the same from 1 inspector as another. They make subjective assessments outside the "guidance" they are required to follow. A 3 can be brilliant if said inspector gets the hump because paper records are not up to date. If they were it could be a 5.
Kebab vendors get lots of stick for inflicting tummy upsets, and a previous poster has suggested that that is a result of undercooked meat. This may be true in some cases, but it is, by and large, believed that the real culprit is the lack of hygiene in the preparation of the salad that goes on most meals.
The issue of how a kebab van operator deals with his own toilet requirements is a matter you must come to terms with yourself!
