O2 signal - problems??
- AB (28th Sep 2015 - 16:36:03)

Anyone else having an issue with O2 signal at the moment?

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Freya (28th Sep 2015 - 17:07:54)

I switched to EE from Vodaphone as signal poor where I live. (between Haslemere Road and London Road)

EE signal terrible when weather is bad.

Have to stand in garden usually for a signal when weather is good.

Transmitters need updating to 4g in this area as still 2g so my phone tells me when I try and tune it in to EE network.
No doubt if I ring EE , they will tell me there are too many trees blocking my signal or some other lame excuse.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Darren (28th Sep 2015 - 17:38:03)

Yes I've been having issues for a few months now.
I've reported it twice to O2 but had no response, signal strength has reduced markedly to the extent I can only make calls from one bedroom upstairs or in the garden.
I have noticed, tho, that a planning application has been submitted to upgrade the mast at Bramshott so hopefully it will improve/return to how it use to be soon.

- Keith Thomas (28th Sep 2015 - 18:33:29)

Yes. Both my wife and I are on GiffGaff who use the O2 network and have both had "No Signal" on and off over the weekend and today. In fact I had it just now and rebooted my iPhone and it came back with a strong signal. Not sure if that's a permanent fix though. I'll post again with an update.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (28th Sep 2015 - 18:39:00)

As a follow up to my last post, I've just checked the O2 Service Status web page and it shows for Liphook.....

"Sorry a phone mast close to you isn't working"

Check for updates on.......

At 8am on 29Sept, O2 are now reporting service back to normal. Let's hope so.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (5th Oct 2015 - 19:45:40)

Since last weeks issues there still seems to be problems with the signal to both our phones. You can sit and watch the signal bars jump all over the place and then hit "no signal" and then jump back to 5 bars.

As I said above, O2 were working on the Liphook mast but then declared it fixed. I reported that I still had issues but they came back today and said they could find no fault.

Is anyone else on O2 or an O2 network like GiffGaff or Tesco having similar issues?

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- tom (5th Oct 2015 - 21:09:41)

my wife is having the same problems with her phone since last week

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Sue D (5th Oct 2015 - 22:33:19)

Yes, I too am having problems with my signal fading from full to nil at varying times of the day. I had a new phone last week and assumed it was because of that - but perhaps it is an issue with O2 currently in Liphook. I previously had O2 with no problems.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- David jones (5th Oct 2015 - 22:44:14)

It's really bad phoned them a few times got no were with them grrrr

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Natalie (6th Oct 2015 - 00:01:37)

I thought it was just me. Have lived in Liphook for a few months now with no issues. Yet now I struggle to send any texts from my phone they always queue and fail inevitably. Plus sometimes I can't make phone calls but it's literally only been the last couple of weeks.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (6th Oct 2015 - 08:21:40)

Can I suggest that everyone with a signal issue reports it to O2. There's a really easy way to do this online........

- Go to status.o2.co.uk

- enter your postcode and click the voice box and get a status report

- just below where they say the network is working fine there is a box you can click called "I Disagree" where you can enter your mobile number and describe what's happening to the signal.

They will send you back a report from their investigations and if enough of us do so they may take it more seriously than if just one of us does.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Ness (6th Oct 2015 - 09:06:09)

We are having terrible trouble sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and have reported it to 02 and they say no issue !

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Debbie (6th Oct 2015 - 10:01:23)

I'm at the Griggs Green end of Liphook and we're having real problems. I've clicked on the link and reported it.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- perineal (6th Oct 2015 - 12:39:14)

Also having problems, on giffgaff, will report

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Ness (6th Oct 2015 - 17:30:05)

Just had a reply from 02 saying they have investigated this and there are no problems !!!

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (7th Oct 2015 - 08:11:33)

Just an update to say my wife also reported the problem and she has had a text this morning saying...

"Just checking in to let you know we've found the problem affecting your signal. We're working on fixing it and will be in touch within the next 48 hours."

Hmmm....... let's see. Hopefully they've taken more notice with more of us reporting the issue.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- jo herridge (7th Oct 2015 - 18:53:16)

I called o2 early last week with signal issues. They said no issues their end must be my phone. However my partner had no signal either, I work in Guildford and in the last few months signal has dropped considerably there too, they said it was down to usage of everybody. I spent 2 hrs on the phone to O2 last week and i still never got it sorted properly.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- jo herridge (7th Oct 2015 - 18:59:51)

i have also reported it via the link as still having issues

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (8th Oct 2015 - 08:25:04)

The O2 network status website this morning shows......

"We'll be carrying out some maintenance on our phone masts in this area on the 08 October."

Let's see if they can get it sorted this time.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Debbie (8th Oct 2015 - 11:00:44)

I've just had a text from them this morning at 10.54am saying "We've been checking for faults in your area but haven't been able to find any"

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (9th Oct 2015 - 08:27:52)

Since last night the status is showing

"Sorry we're currently working on a phone mast in this area

Your service might come and go until we've finished."

... and this is still the case at 08:30 today (9th).

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Dave L (9th Oct 2015 - 21:33:25)

I work for a large corporation and have suffered for a number of months with phone cutting out mid call with a preceding electronic noise, complained to O2 who stated that there was no issue, I then explained who I worked for and the number of phones we are paying for (5 figures) and there are alternative providers.
They said they would investigate and were in contact for a fortnight stating that there was only one mast signal in Liphook that had a fault and although they thought they had rectified it it had returned and was due to a cable fault, give them their due they rang a number of times and were concerned but as it drew on the calls became less and have now stopped.
The only consolation is that it livens up the conference caĺls in the morning when I drop out for the tenth time, my Director thinks I just dont like his management style when I perpetually hang up.....ho hum back to two cans and a piece of string.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- maud (12th Oct 2015 - 15:14:09)

This is becoming a very frustrating problem, particularly as following O2's complaints procedure only results in an automatic reply that they've checked and there is no problem!

What can we do?!

Re: O2 signal - problems??

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Natalie (12th Oct 2015 - 15:54:25)

I've not been able to make any calls today. Then tried twice to call 02 and 30mins plus wait. An absolute joke.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- AndyW (12th Oct 2015 - 15:58:20)

Just remember that O2 aren't the only mobile network. I'm with Vodafone and have the Suresignal box at home and never have a problem. Full signal all the time at home.

We live off the Haslemere Road and the Suresignal is a blessing as we live in a black hole when it comes to anything digital, be it TV, radio or phones.

It's cut throat for mobile service suppliers and there are some excellent deals out there if you are tempted to change network. Don't put up with being fobbed off and go to a supplier that actually works!

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Freya (12th Oct 2015 - 16:44:27)

I have EE
and have had to turn phone on and off to get coverage to send text messages this afternoon.
Not working inside or outside of my property.
If you think getting answers from O2 are bad you should try EE.
EE have Twitter and Facebook where you can complain. This is no good if you do not have Twitter or Facebook accounts.
I have found no statue updates like O2 have on EE website.
At least one mobile network (O2) are trying to keep customers updated about work on the phone masts. Even if it's not keep customers happy by not fixing the problem asap.
I'm enjoying not having my mobile to hand. It nice not getting text and phone calls from idiots dialing the wrong numbers at present.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Darren Ellis (13th Oct 2015 - 09:06:49)

I'm still having issues, and have been for many months, but always get told by O2 that there are no problems!

I've noticed, though, that Vodaphone and Telephonica (O2) have submitted a planning application to upgrade the mast at Liphook Station, to increase it's height and upgrade it to 4G status (EHDC ref: 54264).

Although not an instant fix it might improve things in the long run for those of us having problems.

Unfortunately I, like some others, don't have a choice in mobile supplier as my phone is a company one and I rely on it for work as well as for personal calls. Of course it does mean I don't have to pay for it so every cloud has a silver lining ;-)

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Ness (13th Oct 2015 - 11:28:48)

Still no signal and have just spoken to 02 and no new mast until 2017 and apparently no faults in our area and maybe put it down to me moving to the area ....I have lived in the same house for 14 years in Liphook !!!

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Louise trant (15th Oct 2015 - 13:21:31)

I have just contacted 02 (202 from mobile phone). I went through to billing and told them I didn't want to pay my bill as the coverage has been so bad recently. I was immediately given my £28 line rental free for next month. I urge you all to do the same! Hopefully they will soon get the message that we aren't happy (signal permitting ;) ) Good luck.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Peter (17th Oct 2015 - 09:30:37)

Just happen to work with the cellular/mobile industry, there are 4 networks in the Liphook area:

EE- good 2G, poor 3G and no 4G (if you are still a T-Mobile customer then same applies as they are the same base stations), EE waiting to do 4G but only 1 tower out of 6 is really suitable with changes.

Vodaphone - good 2G, average to poor 3G and no 4G (as noted they need a higher tower to improve coverage - both 3G using 900MHz and 4G using 800MHz)

O2 - very good 2G, poor 3G and no 4G (note O2 shares towers with Vodafone but doesn't have 800MHz, so must use old 2G 900MHz at 3G)

3 - average 3G and no 4G (note 3 shares some 3G towers with EE)

From a 4G perspective the only coverage you could expect [quickly] will be up and down the A3 and then perhaps centre of Liphook. None of the sectored antennas on the towers point in other directions.

There is hope for 4G, EE will switch on its 800MHz band with 4G starting year end, while Vodafone will have coverage in begin '17. O2 and 3 are trying to merge so don't expect any new spend for a while.

Once EE merges with BT in March '16 the 800MHz coverage should expand much quicker as EE may win a Public Safety contract for "Blue Lights" end of this year. This contract means Police etc will start using 4G on EE [if they get the contract].

So there are no other alternative suppliers, as with many areas the need for more and better coverage bumps into planning applications for new towers/roof tops and the public's resistance to have a tower near them. Unfortunately 4G, more so than 3G will mean more and closer towers if you want to stream video all day long.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (17th Oct 2015 - 18:11:50)

Just to jump back in again. It was only a few weeks ago that the O2 signal started playing up. Until then, in the over 4 years that we've lived in Liphook and been on three different flavours of O2 (Tesco, O2 itself and GiffGaff) we've never had an issue. So whatever was going on with the masts a few weeks ago seems to be the responsible for the current problems we're all having.

I would call O2 and ask but as a GiffGaff customer ( that has no call centre) I'm not sure I'd have much success. I really hope they get this sorted as I think GiffGaff are great and I really don't want to jump ship.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Louise (20th Oct 2015 - 16:23:39)

Peter. Thank you very much for all the info on the networks. Really helpful.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- MH (21st Oct 2015 - 12:08:31)

Yes, same problems, signal dips in and out on a regular basis

Also voicemails aren't received for sometimes 24 hours and even when they do arrive cannot be accessed.

I think O2 has issues across Surrey and East Hampshire

Problem has been reported

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Peter (23rd Oct 2015 - 10:22:04)

Update for EE users:

Text from EE saying they are starting 4g upgrade shortly, so there is likely to be some loss of signal on 2G and 3G while this happens. Be interesting to see how far the 4G coverage reaches, the text didn't say whether this is at 1800MHz or 800MHz.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (27th Oct 2015 - 18:57:43)

Aaaaaarrrrggghhhh ! This stupid problem still exists and nothing I do seems to make any difference. I reported it again to O2 this morning after checking the status which said everything was OK. They responded saying they'd found a problem and they were working on it and then later I get another text saying they've fixed my network issue. And guess what ...... no change at all, still dropping out constantly.

I think these interactions with O2 are just automated responses and bear no relation to what they find or say they're doing.

Another weird thing is that occasionally my phone shows it has a 4G signal which is just crazy when O2 have no such transmitter here.

I'm really not sure where to go from here other than jump ship and dump GiffGaff which is going to be a real shame as its so cheap.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Dave L (27th Oct 2015 - 20:20:41)

Received call today from 02 regarding ongoing issues, they have carried out repairs and were suprised when I confirmed that there was no change.
I have recommended they access this site to view the issues that have been identified and will give feedback to their engineers so fingers crossed.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (28th Oct 2015 - 08:39:30)

That's good news Dave, thanks for letting both O2 and us know. There's a glimmer of hope for us now.

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- Keith Thomas (17th Nov 2015 - 09:01:29)

Just bumping this up to see how everyone is getting on now.
I am still getting "no service" occasionally but I have found a sort of work around.

I am using an iPhone 5s with GiffGaff as a provider. Under "Settings, Mobile Data, Voice and Data" I can select 2G, 3G or 4G. My assumption is that if I select 3G or 4G it will drop down to 2G or GPRS if that's the only signal available.

What I've realised is that I get "No Service" when the phone is set to 3 or 4G. As soon as I drop it to 2G I get a signal again. It's a pain as I have to remember to change it again if I'm going out.

Weird eh? I wondered if everyone else who is having problems is using an iPhone 5 as it feels like it might be a phone issue rather than signal.

Any thoughts?

Re: O2 signal - problems??
- JT (17th Nov 2015 - 09:37:38)

I dont know the phones will automatically drop to the best available signal, my wife and I have different phones but both on giff gaff.

My findings are that O2 are saying the 3g/4g isnt working on the masts covering our area.

If you can, go to your phone, voice and date etc and select 2g. Everything works fine then as far as text and calls go.
Just need to remember to change it when you're in a different area and want the data.
Hope this helps
