Why people feel the need to criticise!?
- Georgie (27th Jul 2015 - 12:24:03)

I just cannot believe that people post on here, to inform the community of recent occurrences, information, and warnings.......and yet the people of the area just criticize suggestions on how or why these incidents are happening!

re: man following children, skate park issues, attempted burglary.

It is beyond me, why people feel the need to point fingers, & make assumptions.....

i will await the criticism, regarding this post

I'm sure you won't be disappointed in your wait for criticism..

My main criticism is of your over-use of commas. There are a fair few posters on talkback who use the same style of writing, smattering commas willy nilly - apparently just for the fun of it.

It does leave me wondering whether its the same person trying to have some fun, or if Bohunt's English department has just given up altogether.

Either way, it makes some posts hard to read - personally I prefer the format chosen by the poster who almost exclusively presents his opinions as haikus.

But you are so right
Most posters to this forum
Are nimby whingers

(they also proved themselves appallingly ignorant & discriminatory in the thread about the strange man, no, not all Asians / Indians / eastern Europeans are Muslims, many are Christian / Hindu / Buddhist & more... And I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that Indian men are likely to commit sex crimes due to their culture! It is embarrassing and shocking that people here are so completely ignorant and happy to buy into the idea that sensationalist headlines are the norm).

It looks like you used one too many full stops at the end of your first sentence!!!!!!

Georgie,

Correct me if I am wrong but if I understand your point correctly, you are not saying that there should be no criticism at all of anything on this forum, but you don\'t like negative destructive criticism which in your opinion is not based on facts, but on assumptions and prejudice..

If that\'s what you mean. I understand, but I fear you are wishing for the impossible.

It\'s an imperfect world and we have to accept that although the majority of posters on this forum are constructive, rational and reasonable, unfortunately as in any online community, there will also be a proportion of narrow minded bigots, racists, whingers, trolls and arrogant know-it-alls.

And simply people with differing views to ours.

(And sadly there will also always be people who judge others on their spelling, punctuation and grammar!)

Provided people don\'t break the laws on hate speech, data protection, libel and incitement to violence, etc., (which thankfully the editor is very hot on) everyone should have an equal right to express their views, whether they over-use commas or not.

This forum is a really important and valuable resource for improving the quality of life in Liphook. We can debate, share useful knowledge, instigate changes, support and help each other.

Sadly some people enjoy tearing others down; it compensates for their own inadequacies and makes them feel superior.

However if the editor excluded these people and only accepted posts from (in his opinion), nice, rational types, the forum wouldn\'t reflect the true nature of the people of Liphook and we would be living in delusion..

We are fortunate to have the opportunity to share views and experiences, both positive and negative. Freedom of speech is an important right, but it does come at a price, and we might as well get used to it, as a world where everyone acts and thinks rationally and thoughtfully is just a fantasy.

Perhaps you should read some accounts of what happens to women in India in public and in private, S, or do you think that we should all be too politically correct and ignore the rape and murder of women? Most men I know who have worked abroad in those countries do not actually have contact with the sort of area in which that takes place so they choose to believe it does not happen!

Why do you assume most of the posters on here went to bohunt I certainly didnt

Ellie,

Correct me if I'm wrong - but rape, violence and murder is not just isolated to India? Sadly it happens in ALL walks of life, in ALL countries - because of SOME bad people (REGARDLESS of gender, race, culture, status, colour, religion etc.etc.etc.) Sadly, having been on jury service, I can assure you first hand that not every rapist has brown skin and an Indian accent....

To others,

I feel the need to comment because I cannot stand the ignorance that is being shown here by many people on this site.

It is extremely worrying that ONE man in Liphook is openly behaving in an inappropriate way towards women and young girls -- and I say this as a Mum of two daughters -- but he is not a representative of a particular culture, race or religion. And to make comments such as " All Indians are Muslims" or to imply that all Indian men have no respect for women is JUST PLAIN IGNORANT AND WRONG

It appears that not everyone has heard the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" or that "An empty vessel makes the most noise".

There is a rape epidemic in India - this is widely reported in the world's newspapers, a recent Guardian report on line, stated that in the first 2 months of 2015, 300 rapes were recorded by the police in the city of Dehli alone. Just imagine the figure for unrecorded ones! Does reporting this in our newspapers make the journalist a rascist?

Of course not every man in a particular country is a rapist, in the same way that not every fairground worker is a burglar. Alerting people to possible danger is not the same thing as inciting people to hatred.

Re: Why people feel the need to criticise!?
- Lisa (28th Jul 2015 - 08:30:12)

Ellie, thank you for acknowledging my very point; that we cannot judge all people by the actions of a few.
If you wish to hear some other statistics, according to the Guardian, Dehli is over 3 times more densely populated than London and in London alone there were 4,170 rapes reported in 2014.
I calculate that to be an average of 347 rapes reported per month in London last year; this in an area far less densely populated than Dehli...
I also understand that women in India are finally feeling more empowered to report and raise awareness of this important issue, which is why it has been in the news recently.
I go back to the facts, however, that there is a very real danger of stereotyping a particular race, religion or culture - just as there is sadly a danger from certain members of ALL sections of society..
I will leave it there, having made my point, I hope.
Peace and love to all.

In a desperate attempt to to return this thread to it's rightful original subject:

CONSTRUCTIVE criticism (cc) should be amongst the best ways to improvement and ultimately to excellence. Excessive positive feedback leads to stagnation and complacency. Regrettably, many lack the skills for dealing with cc (many are over-sensitive) so they perceive cc as an assault or as something purposefully unpleasant.

I have no time or will to deal with destructive criticism, that's just sad.

Way too many ninnies using this site that claim they are being victimised, troll'd, bullied etc etc... just because others don't agree with them or have a different opinion.

No-one is forced to contribute to, visit or read this site so if you can't accept it, for both good and bad, then there is a very simple solution!
