Attempted Burglary
- Ali (22nd Jul 2015 - 10:45:44)

Hi,

This is a bit of a heads up to everyone.

We live in Tower Close and had an attempted burglary on early Tuesday morning (3.30am). It wasn't a shed, it was our home while we were sleeping upstairs. The only thing that stopped them was our wonderful dog who growled and barked to wake us up, and when my partner went down stairs, they ran off towards The Mead.

We had a some expensive bikes and tools in our home worth more than we could afford to replace (a few items borrowed from friends). They have now all been removed/returned!! It's such a shame because this is our home and we shouldn't have to remove our belongings to feel safe.

Police were called and a dog unit traced them back to The Mead, and fingerprints have been taken.

If you have bikes/tools in a shed etc please make sure they are all locked up appropriately.

Our road has been amazing and we can't thank everyone enough for being so helpful and kind.

Similar experience 2 years ago. Two bikes stolen from fairly secure sheds. I'm not suggesting that there could be any coincidence here but the fair was in Liphook on that occasion too.

This isn't good - must be really upsetting. Thanks so much for posting on here. They are getting gutsy.

Our neighbour had some very expensive tools stolen from his shed a few weeks ago as was reported on these threads:

BE AWARE!

Theft of our lawnmower

I might invest in some CCTV cameras as well.

Was this the burglary that was on liphook rants where a woman called Janice was very presumptuous and blamed the fair being in town. There are always burglaries in any town or village so I think it's awful to try and blame the fairground when she obviously doesn't know that.

Yep this was on liphook rants and as someone replied to Janice .. Alcoholics do more damage to people than the fairground. Maybe think before you bad mouth people and think maybe about what you have done?

There does appear to have been a pick up in opportunistic burglaries and thefts from gardens recently. Two in our road in the last few months - previously - none!

OK I know that these two, plus what has been reported on here are not a representative sample - but you have to wonder why and what has changed.

i offered to take Janice over to the fair to ask them yesterday as I know them...but no reply...?

wasn't there houses down the avenue? not that long ago that had an attempted burglary or two...?no fair in village then...?

of course there will be more attempted burglaries when the fair is in the village...as people know THEY will get all the blame which is NOT fair...why would they compromise coming back year after year to make a living...by going out to burgle the same village...?

small minded people...

Re: Attempted Burglary
- Ali (23rd Jul 2015 - 12:22:24)

I made this thread and the one on Facebook to warn everyone about something that was pretty frightening for my husband and I.
I would hate anyone else to be the victim of a burglary in the same way.

It was no way intended to slate the people who run the fair. It's a shame 1 persons opinion has made this and the Facebook thread about defending the fair people. Janice is entitled to her opinion and it is a reflection on herself. Which could be narrow minded or she could be spot on- who knows! I am making no assumptions as when the fair has previously been in town personally we have had no problems. Whoever it was I hope they are caught out in the very near future.

The point is, there was an attempted burglary in the local area and I hope everyone takes extra precautions when it comes to locking away valuables.

Re: Attempted Burglary
- liz (23rd Jul 2015 - 12:28:08)

I wasn't suggesting it was the fair. It seems there are more unscrupulous people about recently and unfortunately we all need to be more vigilant.

Re: Attempted Burglary
- A (23rd Jul 2015 - 16:42:02)

Liz has hit the nail on the head, the fair is not the problem but there is an element of humanity that buzzes round fairs like bluebottles to dog do-dahs who become problematic to the area.

Re: Attempted Burglary
- Lucy (23rd Jul 2015 - 19:34:08)

Yes liz was right. I think what is happening here is two different threads, one of them was on liphook rants and someone named Janice implied it was the fair. As liz says this has been going on for some time. Our shed was broken into on the headley road a few weeks ago and law mower and very expensive strummer stolen. The fair was not in town!!! Some people are very quick to blame fairground/travellers etc .. It's disgusting.

Actually, the 'small minded' and 'quick to blame' are those who lash out on peoples' legitimate and respectful insights. It is fine to point out on such interesting - if not compelling co-incidents. It is up to the reader whether to follow on that logic or not.

Thank you for alerting us all for the danger and suggesting a possible link to offenders. Sorry you have been victimised first by the burglar then by narrow-mindedness on here...

Thank you for alerting us to this. We live nearby so we are just being extra vigilant.

Disturbed someone climbing my wall/gate on Wed night, reported to police, minor damage, hopefully he/she received a few bruises when hitting the ground, getting a bit worrying.

- paul (26th Jul 2015 - 16:26:00)

Hi,

To me it's simple the thieves want money for drugs. In a well-off area for some there is easy opportunity to steel expensive items from sheds. Make life difficult for potential robbers i.e. a simple notice saying CCTV in this area (whether or not true) and outside night movement lighting can deter someone.

Good luck.

Re: Attempted Burglary
- Ali (27th Jul 2015 - 15:31:52)

I hope no one thinks I made the link to the fair ground because I absolutely did not in any of my posts on here or Facebook.

The police did say Alton and Liphook appeared to be areas targeted recently.

Heard on the news last night that a lot of the immigrants who manage to stow away on lorries, jump off at the first major lorry park - which, for a lot of them, is the Cobham lay-by on the A3.

If they've already trekked up through France, it wouldn't be beyond them to follow the A3 to various bits of the countryside, Liphook is not a million miles away.

They would be hungry, not necessarily for drugs, just food and money and quick sell items.

Just a thought...

Shed broken into on London Rd a few weeks back.
They had a white van parked in the layby near the river.
Number reported all captured on wildlife cam.
