Fish Bar - Headley Road
- Simon (17th Jul 2015 - 08:34:42)

I see the chip shop on Headley Road is under new management, anyone given it a go yet?

Yes...we went there a few weeks ago....so not sure if it changed hands since then again?

I wasn't impressed and neither was my 7 year old. The fish was smaller and still had its skin on and the childs chicken pieces were no longer simple, un 'mucked around with' chicken breast and was shaped mashed up chicken...more processed.

They gave my son an unbelievably huge portion of chips which was ridiculous for a child - I reckon there were more chips than in my small adult portion. About 75% were thrown away as there was too much! It was all chips and not enough protein.

We aren't going there again....

I haven't been in there since the end of may when they changed hands...I miss the last couple :( they done so well with the shop and knew most of their regulars...

im a veggie and have stopped going there as I was told they cook their pork sausages IN with the CHIPS...?im not sure if its 100% true...but why would they do this...?

also I know a couple of friends that don't go there any more because they have stopped doing gluten free foods...?

its sad...

Hi,
Yes I agree chips o.k. but to many per portion. Fish not the quality as before, maybe a cheaper type used.

It's a pity for new management but people will vote with their feet.

Regards.

I too have stopped using this shop.

The previous managers left because the owners wanted to lower standards (serve fish with skin etc), which they were not prepared to do, in order to increase profits.

Such a shame.

I don't know how long the chip shop has had new management in place.
I called about three weeks ago and bought fish and chips on my way to watch an evening cricket match. They were rubbish fish was all black and the chips were all bitty most went in the rubbish bin a total waste of money.
If you want good fish and chips go to Atlantis Fish Bar in Whitehill excellent value for money.

have you tried complaining to the owners? The customer who does not complain in person will never get things changed. I am not suggesting you should eat what you do not like, but to buy food and then throw it away is wrong, do you not have a dog to feed it to?

New management very happy to deal with any complaints about food.

old managers left for a different reason
food standards not lowered
gluten stopped for customers safety
skin on cod not cheaper any customer can have skin off if requested

sorry if any of our customers have had a bad experience

Teresa

Surely it is for customers to decide if standards have dropped and there is no doubt, in my opinion and that of others to whom I have spoken, they have - considerably.

If everybody was happy with skinned fish why is this not now the case.

If it ain't broke why mend it!

I have been in once since the new management took over and will never go again.
The fish was mostly batter and the batter uncooked. The chips - cardboard would have tasted better.
What a shame.

Hi

I would just like to say, that my husband called in there one night last wek, just before closing, and intended to buy a chippie dinner for myself, and him as it was just before closing, they gave our chippie dinner for free, as they were just closing, and it would have went in the bin....very nice, and even better that it was FOC....Thank you very much manager of Liphook Chippie

Called in and bought 3 cod and chips

we all enjoyed them, good fish (skin on) and chips, 3 clean plates afterwards!

The shop was relatively busy and it was nice to form our own view - will go in again soon
