Can we start a community Green Dragon support group?
- paul (30th Jun 2015 - 23:25:22)

Hi,
Knowing the village pub is not going through a good time at the moment can Liphook people rise to the occasion and support.
Lets start small on a midweek get together on a Wednesday at 8pm.
We can then set ideas with the pubs managment on having a fun place to meet.

Lets enjoy Liphook for a special place to live .

Regards.

What next?

How about we meet at the barber's to see if having more regular haircuts will help their trade or the tea rooms to encourage the sale of afternoon tea or possibly we could all drive up and down the A3 to use fuel and help Sainsbury's sales.

The Green Dragon is a business venture not a community facility.

If you feel that strongly about the place put your own money into the pub and when you get in there we will tell you where you are going wrong.

I thought we are free enterprise, sainsbury's consultation committee see where you go with that, and finally EHDC later in the week

Dear All, we have been for dinner tonight at the Green Dragon for the first time after having lived in Liphook for 4 years. The experience was superb. We were met with enthusiasm and made to feel welcomed. The food was amazing...authentic Greek food, prepared and cooked well for a reasonable price. We will be back and would recommend it to our friends. Bon appetite and enjoy!

Isn't it awful how nasty people can be? the chap was only trying to give the green dragon a helping hand, and he received some nasty, sarcastic replies, at least the last comment was helpful.
Some people should take the advice of Thumpers mother, from Walt Disneys Bambi.
If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all

Wendy,
Mine are not nasty comments might be a bit tongue in cheek ultimately my reasoning is stay out of how people run a service or business let people vote with their feet or in this case wallets.pubs are dying in the UK why because people want things to stay the same .this does not happen , customers want food atmosphere and not necessarily alcohol.the ones who are successful are the ones who move with the times.£4.00 for a pint will not pay the rent where as a meal × 2 people will.

Glad to hear the food is good! Greek food is missing from this part of the world, and I personally love it. It would be nice if the trouble makers make room for people who enjoy eating in pubs as last time i ate there the experience was spoilt by the clientele, not the landlord/lady!

Hi there

Me and my family ( my two children) went in there yesterday.

After my experience of the anchor the other week :( Went in there at what 2.15 ordered food a simple ham sandwich for my little boy and a cheese one for me plus chips -
And it took them 45-50mins to come out with it - not on.
Wasn't lunchtime rush hour. Not many people in there tbh the man did apologise that brought food out.

But when I had tried it the bread was dry like it had been sitting in the kitchen along time and had forgotten about it. Wasn't very happy with that - anyway I had to rearrange the sandwich for my little boy as it was horrid
And to my surprise opened the sandwich up and no butter oh my gosh

I had complained and the man bought me some more bread out with butter. Still wasn't good enough bread was dry
Didn't say nothing up at the bar didn't want to make a scene. But never ever ever am I eating in the Anchor again.

That's why I thought we try the green dragon. Being I had brought my boys with me my eldest wanted a cheeseburger
Didn't realise I had walked into a Greek pub lol

Just to add the service was great food was great
But nice to go drinking in there in the evening !!!!
Loved it :)))) well done green dragon would bring my hubby but he don't eat Greek but I suppose he may the chicken and pita

So yes you gained four customers

Two are which non paying lol!!!!! ( meaning my boys )
Friendly wonderful service

Man did say go to Anchor for a burger - But I said no ways lol they can't even get a sandwich right really disappointed

Anyhows we stayed and ate so so lovely

BUT PLEASE IF YOU'RE READING THIS PLEASE PUT A CHEESE BACON BURGER WITH CHIPS ON THE MENU PLEASE

I know you want to keep the pub Greek but please lol
As I will never go back to the Anchor and those are the two pubs my little one can walk to from our home
I don't want to be having to drive further out to get a pub burger
Oh and sandwiches please

That's a must for my little boy :)))) that'll be great :))( just normal sandwiches cheese ham what ever
It be great thank you :)))

Thanks for reading :)))

Stephen, your post has made me want to give the place a try.

Well, -Iwik61, I've heard it all now, a pub with no alcohol, a famous song comes to mind A pub with no beer, are you serious? suggesting people only want to eat in a pub?

Re: Can we start a community Green Dragon support group?
- Ian (3rd Jul 2015 - 14:25:54)

I may be wrong but I think the point that Iwik61 is trying to make is that unless The Green Dragon appeals to a broader local market, namely those that go to a pub primarily to eat (with a drink or 2) it will not survive for much longer. The population makeup of Liphook means there are simply not enough "drinkers" for a pub to sell enough booze to survive so unless this place widens its appeal it will continue to struggle. Pubs really can no longer survive on beer sales alone unless there is a large local student, young adult, or blue collar worker population, none of which Liphook has. I think there is a potential market for this pub in Liphook, it is an attractive building and is well situated. Nice as they are, The Links and Deers Hut are expensive whist the Hungry Horse is a typical chain pub so if the Green Dragon can find a place in between then it could succeed. However if it does not then along with the empty HSBC site next door, it will be sold to developers, converted into flats and new houses built in the car park as has happened behind the photo shop further along the London Road, That would be a shame.

At last someone has got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I very rarely drink alcohol in pubs. Only ever go to pubs to eat - and usually just ask for a glass of tap water to drink with the meal.

Hi there, I was confused by the posting on the sandwich? This made me think it was eaten at the Green Dragon when in fact it was the anchor. I disagree the pub should serve burgers, how boring! if you want burgers go somewhere which has always served burgers, leave a pub serving greek food to serve greek food! If people want burgers fine, but at least let us have a choice in liphook other than burgers or indian or chinese? lets have something different and hopefully more interesting than a burger and chips! som people want more than that!
