VICIOUS DOG
- tanya wilkinson (24th May 2015 - 13:38:43)

ALL DOG OWNERS AND PARENTS WITH CHILDREN, Please be aware Today (sunday) I encountered 3 people (2 males and a female) with an uncontrollable dog.The dog was of mixed breed, definitely staffie x with what looked like Pit bull. I quickly managed to get my dog back on a lead, in the meantime it took both the males to hold the dog and put it on a lead and hold that lead all the while the dog was growling and snarling and drooling saliva. The 2 males tried to tell me they had only had him a few days after getting him from Battersea dogs home. my dog and i were very shook up, and a few minutes later I met 2 other dog walkers who also tried to warn me about these people and dog. I fear that if they are regular walkers around here that in the coming days we are going to hear of a terrible dog attack. So please everyone be VERY VERY careful.

Where did this scary encounter happen so we can hopefully avoid them?!!. It sounds like my worst nightmare (and my dog\'s).

This is very alarming to us dog walkers and would you be able to inform us to the area you were walking so that we can avoid running into these people and their dog. Thank you.

I first encountered them by the duck pond, I then proceeded towards the bridge,,,, where I met thee 1st lady who also had a problem. she had an 8mth old black poodle and was also very disturbed by the vicious dog, we walked to the green, and as I heade down to the far end of the green the 3 people with the vicious dog were sat on the new bench at the far end of the green.this all happened around 12.30. I hope no one else has any problems . I have contacted the police and reported the incident and will (when they open) contact the dog warden.

Perhaps the owners were a little premature letting the dog off the lead after such a short time having the dog. If what they say is true about the dog coming from battersea then maybe the dog has not had a very good interaction/experience with other dogs in its past and needs the help to overcome this. It's a sad fact that not all dogs have had the best start in life and I'm sure/hope the owners disliked the experience as much as yourself and your dog did, so hopefully they will put the time and effort into training the dog, on the lead with a muzzle if needed into becoming a social dog that will enjoy going for a walk.

A dog that is snarling and slavering sounds more like a stressed dog than a particularly vicious one, an unnaturally quiet dog with a low slung stance is more likely to be dog aggressive,

It sounds like they were responsible, had it on a lead and were aware of it's stress levels. A lot of rescue dogs need time to relax into 'normal life' after extended time of kennel living.

Hopefully they will find a well balanced intuitive dog to do some parallel walking and socialisation with to help their new dog calm itself and become tuned into normal life.

I had an unsettling experience in Radford Park a couple of weeks ago where two beautiful akitas (no owner insight) appeared to be stalking me and my dog ...... I have never been so pleased to get back into a residential area!

sorry , mis read the first post , if the dog was from Battersea I am sure they have advised to keep on a lead until the dog has settled to normal life which can be a long long time for a rescue dog.

A lot of rescues have a minimum time of lead experience walks as part of their adoption contract.

My Cocker Spaniel was attacked by a dog of the same description and locked it jaws on to her head & throat and would not let go. The owners of the Staffy were by their car and had let it off. I called for help and finally the male owner turned up and put a stick through its collar and wound it until his staffy let go of mine. They offered to pay the vets bills and gave me a false name and address having cost me £286.
This was in Clanfield woods early one morning but they are known to travel around in an Escort type van so be careful as I personally think it is a trained killer and the guy seemed to know how to get it off my dogs head.
All this was reported to the police and EHDC Dog Warden.

This is getting worse and worse.
I hope someone with a camera can get a photo of the dog, owners and car number plate.

I walked my dogs at 7:15 am today and there was no one about. Just the birds singing in the trees.
I also walked my dogs at 4:30 pm today we only saw a family and their dogs. Also some children playing on bikes and in river.

Yesterday I walked my dogs at 7 am .only one lady was jogging at same time we where over the park.
I took my dogs out at 6:15pm as well. we saw Some children and their puppy .
Also Another dog walker and his dog .

If you walk your dogs at busy times 9am-3:30 pm over Radford sadly you meet some badly behaved dogs and owners. Also some well behaved dogs and owners. People and children without dogs. Children playing in the river. Children riding their bike fast round the paths.

I'm sorry you experienced these people and their dogs. Maybe you should change your timing so your not walking ,when others are about at peek times during the day.
Your have a calmer walk then.

You can not control how other people and their dogs behave.
But you can control going for a walk at a time of the day when there are less people and dogs about.

Enjoy your next walk. Stay calm and don't let this unfortunate series of events spoilt things for you.

I am entitled to write my point of view. Not everyone walking their dogs over Radford are vicious .

Unfortunately there is probably more than one out of control dog in East Hants, and it is highly unlikely that the dog reported in Clanfield is the same dog encountered in our area, it has to be down to each dog owner to insure their dog and claim on their own policy. I do not think that the insurance cover on dogs works in the same way as car insurance, where there is a reciprocal insurer's bureau to work in the same way when there is a car accident. The car can usually be traced by the registration number. Sadly dogs can be used for protection by people who feel they need to show some strength, if they feel vunerable themselves. In their world the more dangerous the dog, all the better. And they abuse the dog themselves.
The more people around the better though if there is a problem?

Ellie
Insurance policies are good but have one major flaw.once you have claimed for a certain operation or area of cover to be paid for with your insurance claim. This part becomes invalid and you can not claim for them again.
People would be better off saving the money you pay for a pet insurance each month. Rather than wasting money on insurance claims that are no longer usable once claimed for.
This was the advice given to me by two different vets.

sadly posts like the first one scare people and gives a park, common, recreation ground, field a bad reputation . Which is not the parks ect fault. In this case it sounds like, Its the owners of dogs who did not listen properly to advice given by the rescue centre.

Re: VICIOUS DOG
- tanya wilkinson (27th May 2015 - 14:47:02)

I would like to point out that I originally posted about this dog, just as a warning, I would hate to hear a dog or child had been attacked, because I was to lazy to warn others of what I had encountered. I would never be able to forgive myself if a dog or child had been attacked and I had done nothing.
On the note of insurance for dogs, I feel that someone is giving bad advice, most good dog owners have pet insurance to cover any serious illness or operations, and you can claim on the same thing BUT only if you have a FOR LIFE policy, Yes most insurances would pay out say if your dog broke a leg, and not pay again if the dog broke the same leg again, BUT a FOR LIFE policy (which is a little more expensive) will pay how ever many times a dog broke a leg. Well worth looking at,, if you have a breed that is liable to repeat injuries or illness.
