Parking on the Haslemere Road
- Annoyed Parent! (18th May 2015 - 16:42:12)

To the person who lives in the house next to the anchor garage,

Please can you park in the space provided outside your house and not on the pavement. A pavement is for pedestrians walking and not a glorified car park
Multiple times I have seen parents with prams (myself included) having to go out into the road to get round your Volkswagen. This is endangering both the parent and child as cars don\'t exactly go slow when they are coming off the roundabout to go up the Haslemere Road.

As you know where they live have you been to see them or put a note through their door? Very valid point but there is a good chance they don't' read Talkback. Alternatively I recall a To Let board outside recently so I think the property is rented so you could ask the letting agent (Town and Country in Haslemere I think) to speak to the landlord

Hi, my humble apologies for inconsiderate parking. I appreciate the problem as a parent of a schoolchild myself. I'll ensure it doesn't happen again. I am actually keen to somehow put some pressure on the powers that be for some traffic calming strategy to be put in place as cars accelerate on the roundabout and are travelling very fast often in front of my house which is where children and adults cross the road to head down the side of Route 6 hairdresser...does anyone have any ideas as to an effective way of making an issue of it and who to approach pls?

Perhaps using the two pedestrian crossing that are supplied just a thought!!!!!

- Resident (18th May 2015 - 22:57:23)

Rightly or wrongly, many people including children/teenagers cross at this point and can be unable to see whether a car is coming round the corner. I agree they should take a different route but they don't. There's an accident waiting to happen due to their choice of crossing point combined with the speed of the cars as they go past the garage.

There are only two pedestrian crossings one by the Hungry Horse and the other one by Hampshires! You are not obliged to stop at the drop kerbed ones!

On a similar subject - could the drivers (including the Post Office van) who park JUST inside The Maltings on the left hand side please park further away from the junction. It is very dangerous them turning in off the Haslemere Road with fast moving vehicles behind you.
Many thanks for your consideration.

Very good response from 'Resident' I had visions of this turning into yet another Talkback rant between opposing factions but I believe your response has diffused this risk.
You have to respect someone who puts their hand up straight away and says fair point.

thank you to the resident for your apology, it is very much appreciated. I also noted today that your car wasn't parked out the front of your house so thank you again.

Resident, if you are interested in reducing speed in the village would you be interested in joining the local speedwatch team? That goes for any other residents interested in reducing the speed of traffic in and out of Liphook..... Thanks

Maybe we could also address the parking issues with Cars parked on the pavement outside of the Mahaduban 2 Go and Daiseys Tea Room in the Square.

Unfortunately I don't think the Speedwatch effort does any good. I'm afraid I don't think anyone takes any notice.

Re: Parking on the Haslemere Road
- Rachel (20th May 2015 - 21:30:08)

Just a note to W, there is a crossing point outside of Route 66. There are 4 yellow bollards and a dip in the pavement!
There is also a crossing next to the car park on Midhurst Rd (i think that is the name of the road) opposite the steps next to the council building!
As someone who walks rather than drives, I have had to find the crossing points around Liphook.

Re: Parking on the Haslemere Road
- Richard (21st May 2015 - 22:37:46)

There are only two official crossings in Liphook.

A crossing is defined as either a light control crossing or a zebra crossing.

So the two are by Chris Hampshires and The Green Dragon.

All other mentioned crossings are just places to cross with the best view of the traffic, which were put in about ten to twelve years ago when the council did all the roadworks in the middle of the village but drivers are not obligated to stop for any of them if they do not wish to.

Also something needs to be done about the state of the parking in Malthouse Meadows. It's getting beyond a joke.

Re: Parking on the Haslemere Road
- sarah (21st May 2015 - 23:33:09)

If I am not mistaken we have 4 crossing points, with them being by Hampshire's, the Dragon, in front on the Anchor and, albeit a bit further out, by Bohunt. If you class the Headley Road one, there's 5!

I do think we would have benefited from further official crossings on the Haslemere and Midhurst roads as they are very difficult to cross and if you live that side of the village there are no real alternatives!

Re: Parking on the Haslemere Road
- Eb (22nd May 2015 - 06:57:16)

I agree Richard about the parking on malthouse meadows, it's when football is on in the rec they park right up to the junction and on both sides of the road. The other week an AMK minibus had to be guided through because of the parked cars good job nobody needed the fire service that evening. And why do we have to have the groundsmans from the rec park the truck on the green all the time it just encourages others to park on it.

i agree with sarah there is 5 in total but nothing this side of liphook (midhurst road and haslemere road)

the speeding along midhurst road between sainsburys and station road is a nightmare day or night...my dog and i nearly got hit by a speeding car coming up from the pet shop the other day, we started to cross the road from the green to the houses the car was by the newtown road, but because my dogs rather old she cant walk fast the car had to slam their blakes on before hitting us...!

jo i would like to know more about the speed watch team too...?
