Vandalism in Bramshott?
- liz (9th Apr 2015 - 15:12:46)

I would like to know which of our local authorities (PC, EHDC or Highways) is responsible for the hideous signs and associated road markings that have appeared in the lanes in Bramshott. A friend of mine has described them as "nothing short of vandalism". The small 'Bramshott' signs have been replaced by huge signs on BOTH sides of the road at each entry point. They are no more than an appalling waste of public funds at a time when budgets are being cut everywhere.

While the 'Not suitable for commercial vehicles' (or similar!) signs at the junction of Tunbridge Lane and Headley Road may actually be informative, the very large 'Please drive carefully' signs and associated road markings serve no practical purpose at all. No one agrees with reckless driving in the lanes but these eyesores will make no difference. I had tried to have a sense of humour about them (yes, really!) but today saw the pair of signs and associated road markings by the Mill House - completely out of character with the rural area. The one good point at the moment is that you can't actually see them very well as they are part hidden by other signs (!) and greenery.

I am surprised that the Preservation Society has not objected, particularly when one of the key points of the Parish Plan was the wish of residents to retain the rural character of the hamlets.

(I notice that Liphook retains its smaller scale signs - which are far more appropriate! Can we have the old Bramshott signs back please?)

Hi Liz,
I agree. My guess it's the County road authority in Winchester that should answer to this, not certain.
The Amphibian Crossing signs by the Mill House should only be open for a a few days during migration; They SHOULD be closed the rest of the year to be effective and reduce unsightly impact.

I thought the signs were quite useful and I like them, I'm 75 and always used to miss that bloomin sign into Bramshott and as a result had to drive up the A3! With my poor sight I see the turning into the village every time now!

Great job.

Terrance

If your eyesight is that bad perhaps you should not be driving !

Gotta love the polarity if the world !!!

I like them.

Shame they don\\\\\\\'t include the whole of Bramshott - just half !

At least they are spelt right this time - has a councillor moved to Bramshott ?!!!!

Probably a good thing to warn off HGVs, otherwise I just spend 3 hours digging them out of the single lane - but Mrs. Speedy Red Landrover takes the biscuit for ignorance :-) you know who you are .... I smile at you every day - but you are going to fast to notice - still at least your horses are looked after in good time (PS I suspect they don\\\\\\\'t know about daylight savings, so you don\\\\\\\'t need to hurry ... )

Happy Easter, Finchie

At least Bramshott is spelt correctly this time as per my photo on the previous post. Bramshott was spelt with only one T on the first lot of signs put up. They were only up for a few hours but I managed to get a photo now that was a total waste of money!!!

I thought Terrance's comments were tongue in cheek- at least I hope so. Finchie very amusing as always .... not sure if its the signs he likes or the polarity of views! Can't understand why anyone would like the signs - unless their eyesight is extremely poor - which is quite scary! And why does Finchie think they only cover half of Bramshott?

".... I smile at you every day - but you are going to fast to notice - "

Finchie, you're breaking my heart, have you tried flowers?

Ed, what's with all the backslashes above !!!???? Is it my quotation marks ? Your lexical analyser is probably lacking a correctly configured non deterministic finite automator. Give me a shout if you need help !

Tony, I never touched the daffodils guv...

Liz, good question and my reply will be a little sad - but here goes ...
... Coming from Headley the signs are way too late - close to the frog sign if I remember. There should be signs further north
A) before Bramshott Court (clue's in the name) when coming from High Hurlands.
B) at the top of Burgh Hill Road, when coming from Passfield

Easy way of solving. There are 4 signs in total - 2 by the Frog, 2 up by the A3 both on either side of the road.
Use one at the A3, one at Bramshott Court, one at Burgh Hill Road. put them on the LEFT side of the road - as that is where signs normally are ! Because there is only one sign at each location, they won't be so in your face - really what triggered this thread. Plus saving our taxpayers money on one sign.

I think I've found my calling in life - village sign planner ! Where do I apply ?!!! Villages of Britain - form an orderly queue.

And no Fred - strangly not been on the pop ! :-)

Enjoy your Sunny weekend, Finchie

Well Finchie's plans make more sense than most! If memory serves (and there is no guarantee on that!) there was at one time an old Bramshott sign where the two new edifices and road painting are in Tunbridge Lane ( despite 'Bramshott Court').

In Finchie's new calling there are also, apparently, two signs in Rectory Lane to deal with.......
