Liphook Charity Bike Ride Sunday 7th June 2015
- LiDBA (8th Apr 2015 - 10:39:14)

The entry forms for the 2015 Liphook Charity Bike Ride are now available from local shops, the Bohunt Centre, the Millennium Hall and on the Web sites www.lidba.co.uk. and www.bikeride.co.uk

The Ride will take place on Sunday 7th June 2015 starting at 10.00 am. commencing and finishing at the Bohunt Centre Liphook. A Junior Ride around the sports field commences at 10.30am.

Whilst the Ride is in progress there will be a selection of stalls run by participating charities for the spectators, friends and families of the riders to enjoy whilst the Ride is underway.

The 2015 Ride is the 25th and the route is the same as previous years. It follows the old A3 down to the A272, then along this road to Rogate then turning off to - Borden- Milland- Lynchmere – and then back to the Bohunt Centre a distance of approximately 25 miles. The entire route is signposted and marshalled, hence the need for adequate numbers to help on this major Liphook event.

If you are interested in helping with the Bike Ride before and on the 7th June please contact us on info@lidba.co.uk.

As always the NO HELMET NO RIDE rule applies.

Re: Liphook Charity Bike Ride Sunday 7th June 2015
- LiDBA (18th Apr 2015 - 16:28:02)

Many people have already sent in their entry forms and received their Rider Packs in readiness for taking part.

It's not long now until the Ride, so we would like to encourage those intending taking part to send us their entry forms as soon as possible.

Entry forms are available from local shops, Bohunt Centre & the Parish Offices.

You can also download the forms from www.bikeride.co.uk including paying by PayPal.

In addition to the Main Ride there is a Junior Ride held on the Bohunt Centre sports field plus several stalls run by local charities.

Further details can be obtained from the above web site.

On the Bike Ride day there is a carnival atmosphere at Bohunt where the great selection of stalls, including refreshments, run by local charities and organisations enhance the spirit of the occasion.

Many of the entrants are regular participants and look forward to enjoying the camaraderie of taking part. The atmosphere at the start and during the Ride is fantastic.

The fully marshalled route from Bohunt passes through The Square and the heads towards Rake. The first minor hill encountered is at The Black Fox and at this stage the bevy of riders fly up it with exhilaration onto the first ‘interesting’ hill at Rake. Having mastered this hill the Ride takes you on to Hillbrow where a gentle downhill slope to the junction with the A272 is speedily accomplished. Riding along the A272 in single file the riders reach Rogate where the route turns left up Rogate Hill. From experience this hill is a bit of a ‘slog’, but if taken slowly and surely does not cause most riders a problem. Having conquered Rogate Hill the route through Fyning Hill, Borden, Milland & Elmers Marsh is a delight. However regular Riders will know of the ultimate challenge soon to be met –Lynchmere Hill!!!.

Many riders cycle up all or part of this hill without a problem; others take the entirely reasonable decision to walk knowing that there is a refreshment stop at Lynchmere. With now only a few miles to go the riders become almost ecstatic with the knowledge that they will soon be welcomed back at Bohunt with rapturous applause from the hundreds of supporters and other spectators.

Let’s hope that you are enticed by this summary of the Ride and get into training for the Ride or sponsor the riders and support them on the day.

Towards a Million!

Since 1974 the members of Liphook & District Businessmen's Association have helped to raise £968,000 for local charities and causes.

Our major annual fundraising event is the Liphook Charity Bike Ride and this year we will be celebrating our 25th ride.

We need your help to enable us to achieve our target of taking the total we have raised since 1974 to over £1,000,000.

The Ride is not a race; it’s a fun family event starting and finishing at the Bohunt Centre that has the bonus of taking in some of our superb local Hampshire and Sussex countryside.

To support us by entering the Ride or making a donation visit www.bikeride.co.uk

Thank you to all those who have supported us over the years enabling us to help so many deserving local causes.

At Sainsbury's Liphook on Saturday 23rd May, as a curtain-raiser to the 25th Liphook Charity Bike Ride on 7th June, stalwart LiDBA members, heavily re-inforced by the Liphook Crankers, will attempt to cycle on a static bike a distance equivalent to along the A3 up to the M25, around it and back to Liphook.

A large map behind the bike at Sainsburys, Liphook, will be used to plot progress at half hourly intervals from 9am to 5pm.

Leading the charge will be Liphook’s Invictus Games silver medallist cyclist Andrew Kelsey, taking the saddle at 11am. With the array of Cranker talent added to their ranks, LiDBA members are confident of reaching their goal, despite rumours of training being less than arduous. Passing shoppers are welcome to leap on and pedal a few miles.

LiDBA supports some 70 local charities, so come and enjoy this novel addition to your shopping experience!

Further information about the Bike Ride and entry forms can be found on www.bikeride.co.uk.

There is also the opportunity to make a donation to the Bike Ride supported charities on this web site as detailed on the previous post on Talkback.

LETS hope the cycle ride is better organised and marshalled this year than in previous years, and the competitors are made aware that they must obey the road traffic laws. As they seem to think they are above the law.

Re: Liphook Charity Bike Ride Sunday 7th June 2015
- Sarah Kirby (1st Jun 2015 - 11:34:38)

There is still time to join in the fun for this Sunday's charity bike ride. Why not give it a go, get the bike out of the shed and have a pedal!

Thanks to Liphook in Bloom, the village looks lovely, so let's get out in the sunshine and enjoy it!

If you don't want to cycle - make your kids do it, there is a junior race at Bohunt too, cheer on those taking part or spend some money at the stalls!

Haslemere Chiropractic Clinic will also be giving post race massages for a donation to Dreams Come True.

See you there!

Preparations for this Sunday's Ride continue, with arrangements on schedule. The Ride wouldn’t be possible without the support we receive from individual volunteers and organisations like Liphook Guides & Scouts, and Petersfield ATC.

The number of riders already registered suggests that this year’s ride, the 25th LiDBA Charity Bike Ride, will be another successful event, raising funds for local charities and causes. We are hoping for a record breaking event to reach the ‘magic’ £1,000,000 raised for local charities since the founding of LiDBA.

Members of the public are reminded that The Square will be closed to all traffic on Sunday morning from 9.55am for about twenty minutes to allow the Riders a safe thoroughfare when starting the Ride from the nearby Bohunt Centre.

Throughout the route there will be marshals at all intersections and refreshment points on the A272, Milland and Lynchmere. Riders are reminded that they must always follow the Highway Code. They should ensure that they ride single file to minimise any inconvenience to other road users.

The Junior Ride will be taking place on the Sports Field commencing at 10.30 am

Remember NO HELMET NO RIDE!!

The weather forecast is very promising, so Riders and spectators will be able to enjoy this major Liphook event both on the route and at the Bohunt Centre where various charities will be manning their stalls.

The Liphook Guides and Scouts will be running their very popular refreshment stalls.

Re: Liphook Charity Bike Ride Sunday 7th June 2015
- LiDBA (6th Jun 2015 - 09:11:16)

The weather forecast for tomorrow’s ride looks excellent with plenty of sun, light winds and not too hot.
There will be three refreshment stops on the route with marshals at all intersections.
Riders shouldn’t forget to check their bikes before setting off, wear a helmet and apply plenty of sun cream.
The route will be continually patrolled by recovery vehicles to attend any riders that need help. Owen’s Cycles will also be on the route to deal with any bikes with punctures as quickly as possible.
For those not riding the sight of up to 1000 riders traversing The Square is spectacular. The Square and Portsmouth Road down to Station Road will be closed to all other traffic from 9.55 am for about twenty minutes.
At Bohunt the Ride will be started by Paralympian Olivia Breen at 10.00am
A large selection of charity stalls and refreshments will be available at Bohunt for spectators and riders to enjoy throughout the morning.

Anyone know if there is a minimum age for the junior ride? Also how much is that to enter, not £25 too?

Junior ride remains £1, as far as I know. As for age, they do have to be old enough to ride, obviously, but I'm not aware of a limit.

Saw the list of sponsors on a previous post. Surely the editor has made an error not listing Sainsbury's.

Any reason?

List came from LiDBA

Local Resident:-
Do you believe that was an omission on behalf of LIDBA then?, I'm sure that Sainsbury's, as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Liphook community, would not take the opportunity to be seen to be supporting such a worthy event given that the proceeds are only distributed to local charities, which by extenuation, must include their own customer base. Still, I might be totally wrong, perhaps the LIDBA list is comprehensive and accurate

Re: Liphook Charity Bike Ride Sunday 7th June 2015

The 2015 Liphook Charity Bike Ride was a great success with hundreds of cyclists enjoying the fabulous weather when they cycled around the main route or the Junior Ride on the Bohunt Centre’s sports field.
Further details of the Ride can be found on our web site www.bikeride.co.uk. We would like to remind those who participated on behalf of their selected charities or as individuals to send in their sponsorship money as soon as possible. To those who have already contributed many thanks.
If members of the public would still like to boost the funds raised in support of local charities then visit our web site and click on the online ‘Donate’ button.

Re: Liphook Charity Bike Ride Sunday 7th June 2015
- LiDBA (22nd Oct 2015 - 08:06:55)

The LiDBA Charity Bike Ride Presentation Evening on Tuesday October 20th held at the Millennium Hall , was of special significance for charity work in the Liphook area.

This year’s highly successful Ride again raised a very substantial amount of money with an impressive 800 riders participating on the Main Ride and 216 on the Junior Ride. The figure raised for this year’s event was £41094-00.

But this figure is overshadowed because the total amount of money raised by LiDBA since 1974 has passed £1 million reaching a total of £1,008,731-00!!

This fantastic achievement reflects enormous credit on the LiDBA members over the years, on all those who have helped with the Rides, on all the riders themselves and those who have sponsored them. Many LiDBA members have worked hard in organising the Rides for up to 25 years; numerous riders have participated on several occasions; and our principal Sponsor, Owens Cycles, has supported the Ride for many years.

Some 80 local charities currently benefit each year from this superb effort. To see the smoothly organised start of the ride at Bohunt School, and then to see the effort so many people put in so cheerfully for charity, is truly a humbling experience of great community spirit.

The Ride will continue from now on under the management of the Liphook Crankers, with the proceeds going to local charities.

The 2016 Ride is scheduled for Sunday 12th June
