Benches in Radford
- Kay (25th Mar 2015 - 15:34:24)
While enjoying the brief bit on sunshine this afternoon sitting on the only bench on the entire Radford park field, I started wondering why there isn't more than 1!? I remember as a child Radford park had a number of benches dotted around, now I think there is only 2 in the entire park. Would be lovely to have more.

Aslo would be nice if dog owners kept their dogs on leads. As it's not nice for children to be scared or growled at.

Um...more benches in Radford...yes!
Dogs on leads?...no!
There is already a thread on that and I think it's decided that the majority of dog owners are responsible and dogs that growl or scare children are not off leads...please don't drag it up again!

Only mischievous dogs should be kept under close control (no necessarily leads), please don't punish the well-behaved dogs and their decent owners by general bans. Indiscriminate general bans often backfire.
We used to have more benches in the park, they have succumbed to vandalism and neglect. Let's hope future benches (if materialised) will not share that destiny.

I couldn't agree more. I am not a dog owner any more and my dogs were well behaved. I am also very tired of this question of dogs on leads being dragged up at any and every opportunity to say nothing of dog pooh. This Thread is about benches in Radford Park NOT ABOUT DOGS. Children also can be very anti social and badly behaved in the company of parents who do absolutely nothing about it, often spoiling the enjoyment of others wherever it takes place. Having said that there are a lot of very well behaved childen, So lets get back to the Thread. It would be great to have more benches in Radford Park.,

Suspect that the benches we used to have were damaged by badly behaved humans. Highly unlikely dogs off leads had anything to do with that!

ok, please no more dogs and leads on this thread?
Unconfirmed sources told me Parish tree workers personally gain from timber removed from the park for the benefit of cash in their own pockets; that may explain the unsightly piles of chopped tree trunks and the lack of older naturally dying trees (very important for true conservation). An attractive park is more likely to attract amenities like benches. Aged tree will attract more wildlife.
Again, not certain about the rumour above.
