Liphook Memories - Book
- DML (6th Mar 2015 - 00:56:18)
I may have missed this and someone might have already mentioned it on here, but I was rather surprised to find a book about Liphook while playing around on Amazon tonight. It is downloadable free onto a kindle, and I thought I would share it on here in case anyone else is interested. I haven't started reading yet but am greatly looking forward to it.
It is called:
MINUTE BY MINUTE: A Glimpse of post-war English village life in Liphook, Hampshire 1957 - 1968, by B J Jones.
and the info says it is:
A treasure-trove of family and social history through the minutes of an amateur dramatic society.
Enjoy, fellow Liphookians!

Beware, download is NOT free, unless you have an Amazon Prime account.

I expect they have a copy at the Preservation Soc (Millennium Hall) you can read if you want to see what it is before you buy it.
Even if you are not going to see a book - it is well worth popping up there to see the treasures! It's free.

Found this a while back and the write up asks 'Is this the most boring book ever' well yes, I really think it might be - despite recognising some of the names mentioned.
It's just a write up of the Liphook Amateur Dramatics Society minutes and you can download a free sample even without Prime - bet you don't get to the end without yawning!

I think it's really nice that someone went to the trouble of transcribing the written minutes that would otherwise have been lost.
It is a little snapshot of time, and as the author points out, may be interesting to people researching family trees etc.
History isn't just big events, it's also small social and cultural intricacies and things which are so often forgotten when someone chucks out a box of old things as rubbish.

Talking of capturing memories - I have recently discovered a company that provides an Autobiography service for everyone. Its a great way to get to write your story/life. The company is called Lifebook. look them up on line. I am enjoying putting my memories and life experiences down on paper with their help (they interview you for 90 minutes once a week for 10 weeks and then produce 5 lovely hard back linen books of your life) I am excited about passing these memories on to my children.
