Lazy dog owners!!
- Football parent (14th Feb 2015 - 21:29:45)

Writing as a very annoyed parent right now....so I went to my sons football match this morning at the recreation ground...only to see that yet again lazy dog owners had let their dogs leave something behind on the football pitch soon to be played on by children!
So seeing as this is not the first time this has happened, many times turning up to watch my son play football and preparing the goals etc with the team only to discover more dog faeces, that we have to pick up before the children can play.
I do hope the owners of these dogs think about the consequences, if a child were to fall in this, it can blind them, please remember that!!! So any parents/grandparents out there walking your dog, think about if it were your child or grandchild, just pick it up!!! very infuriating to have to clear it up every Saturday morning before the kids can get on with a game!!
And I may be wrong but can someone clarify if it is right that all dogs have to kept on leads at all times at the recreation ground?

I walked my dog on the green this morning and it is covered in piles of sh**t. So much so that I ran out of bags picking it up and had to leave most of it. I'm for bringing back licenses and DNA testing the poo. It'll cost a fortune but save me money on new shoes and poo bags.

Back in the seventies when I was involved with Liphook Football Club we had the same problem.
Mr Bill Giddings was the secretary at the time and we had a very unfriendly man who travelled from Haslemere and parked his car and let his dogs run free.
Bill Giddings approached this man and he told Bill the dogs are not my responsibility when not on a lead. I don't know if that was the law or not
We went to the council and was told that we had to have evidence. ie photo.
Back in those days nobody had mobile phone with camera's.
If you are at the recreation ground or any other public space and you see dogs fouling the grass take a photo of both the dog and the owner and report them.

- ian (15th Feb 2015 - 16:07:46)

Dave, what a surprise that this man came from haslemere to let his dog s**t on your marvellous Liphook team! He wouldn't have lived in Liphook would he?

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- The Joy (15th Feb 2015 - 23:39:54)

Maybe all the dogs in Liphook and Haslemere can all poo in your garden Ian, seeing you think dog poo is a acceptable item to be left in a area for children to play.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Keith (16th Feb 2015 - 13:28:55)

The ones that get me are those that obviously believe in the poo fairy.

I can think of no other logical reason why you would pick up dog poo in a bag and then leave the bag at shoulder height tied to the branch of a tree.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Dave Lambert (16th Feb 2015 - 14:01:13)

This in reply to Ian's outrageous comments. First I don't understand your comments. Second I don't know if Ian has any children or grandchildren if he has perhaps if one of his loved ones was to loose there sight or have to have a limb amputated just because dog owners haven't picked up there pets mess he would have a different perspective on this subject. Third perhaps Ian would like to tell us all his full name so everyone in Liphook can see who he is. Please don't write such crap.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Keith (16th Feb 2015 - 15:59:12)

Not for one moment defending lazy dog owners but before this thread gets too heated I think it's important to get things into context.

According to Department of Health figures there are less than 10 cases per year of children being infected, in the last 10 years no more than 3 children per year have lost their sight as a result of the infection and even then each of those 3 children only lost the sight in one eye, so while definitely something we would all want to avoid, not quite as scary as 'going blind' suggests.

I'm all for getting dog owners to be responsible and pick up their pets poo but in reality your child is in far more danger crossing the road to get to the park then they are falling in the dog poo once they are in it.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- claire (16th Feb 2015 - 16:24:36)

It would be a good start if dogs had to be on a lead on the rec. I see so many owners letting their dogs run free whilst they walk along studying their phones. I don't think they even notice when their dogs leave a parcel!

I seem to remember that 'dogs on leads' was going to be introduced but never came to anything.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Andy (16th Feb 2015 - 16:37:30)

Two things:

1 - If your dog does a poo, PICK IT UP.

2 - If you feel the urge to comment on the issue of dog poo anywhere in Liphook, USE THE SEARCH FACILTY ON THIS SITE, there are so many existing threads we do not need a new one.

Who is the person that bags up the dog poo and throws it on to trees or leaves it on the side of foot paths it has annoyed me for sometime having two dogs myself i feel it gives out a very bad image of dog owners, noticed these bags on paths off midhust road chuchers school area.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- JJ (17th Feb 2015 - 13:22:11)

Makes my blood boil. I am a responsible dog owner. I clean up my dogs mess. If there isn't a bin, I take the bag home and dispose of it. ALWAYS.
I also regularly worm my dog. Only if a dog has not been wormed and carries the parasite, can it be present in their poo. And only if a human gets the infected poo in their mouth can they then, possibly, have serious complications. Not by falling in it.
I object to being stared at when I exercise my well behaved dog as if I am irresponsible by virtue of having a dog!
Facts here folks and please don't tarnish all dog owners with the same poo bag brush!
The roundworm parasites responsible for toxocariasis (called Toxocara) live in the digestive system of dogs, foxes and cats. The worms produce eggs, which are released in the faeces of infected animals and contaminate soil.

If small particles of contaminated soil get into someone's mouth, they may develop toxocariasis.

It's not possible for someone with toxocariasis to pass it directly to another person.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Val (17th Feb 2015 - 13:59:51)

Thank you JJ. Very intelligent and well balanced post. Makes a change of this forum. I do not own a dog now but used to have two dogs. We are lucky enough to have enough ground in which to exercise our dogs and always ensured that they relieved themselves on our land, but like you I used to be stared at accusingly if I walked my dogs anywhere public. If by chance one of them did relieve herself on public ground I always cleared up and took the deposit home unless as you said there was a designated bin nearby. Some of these posts make my blood boil - uninformed and immotive. Most unfair to tar responsible dog owners and most of are, with the inconsiderate few.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Football parent (17th Feb 2015 - 21:08:19)

This post is not aimed at dog owners in a way to "brand" them as such. I am just saying a genuine fact....being a dog owner myself I know how it feels to be watched when walking my dog.
What I'm saying is just pick up your poo!!!!! It's disgusting that some, not saying all!!! Some people don't do this and it infuriates me that it is becoming a regular occurrence....if you can't be bothered, don't be bothered to get the animal in the first place!!!

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Jackie (19th Feb 2015 - 09:22:46)

If my 9 year old Granddaughter can pick it up why can't a "grown up"???

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- tony (19th Feb 2015 - 10:05:39)

Most people who take their dogs to the rec, do it so they can open their bowels, no wonder we keep an eye on you, it's because we all know why you're there. Dogs should be kept on leads and under control in the rec, surely you could walk to Radford Park where they can run and poo to their heart's content, the rec is for families, kids playing games and falling flat on their faces, it's not a toilet.

People watch you to make sure you clear it up, you should really bring a bucket and detergent! Responsible dog ownership is quite a high threshold.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- R M E (19th Feb 2015 - 12:51:49)

Tony Radford Park is a family Park so the same rules should apply dogs on leads

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- tony (19th Feb 2015 - 21:39:03)

Yes R M E, but I think Radford Park is a more suitable place to let dogs off the lead.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Simon (20th Feb 2015 - 07:14:39)

All the post I understand in some cases I agree. I'd also add that leaving any dog poo in public spaces isn't acceptable.

Keeping dogs on a lead is not a solution either as dogs/owners causing the issues will continue to cause the issues what ever.

I previously wrote in challenge to the council about dogs on leads in parks and commons - it just wasn't fair to introduce a new rule when there are currently rules in place not being overseen.

From London to Portsmouth and in many other public places I could take my dog to any common and have him off the lead. I actually take my dog around Liphook off the lead and it would be mad for me to the leash him once we arrived at an open space.

Ensuring dogs on leads in all open spaces is about as sensible as ensuring all children and teenagers are constantly supervised by an adult in case they drop litter or swear in public or jay walk. (Wait for it Liphook - lets not have a teenager rant about Saaaam / Kids / the destruction of youth today, oh my god if only.... "enter preferred political party" were in government or if princess Diana was here we wouldn't have 4x4's dropping off kids at the school or it doesn't happen in North Korea where I visited in the 70's on a school exchange trip to study the 18 types of haircuts available for women who live there. Hold on!)

There's absolutely no best practice from any borough or council on applying dog leads = less issues with dogs, less dog poo or greater safety. Hence why this wasn't brought in as a blanket rule. The council / local authorities can't just make up new rules in ways

There are rules on picking up dog poo for public spaces and YES they need to be enforced and upheld. Every Dog owner need to be held to account for this and dog owners reminded / asked at the point of poo to collect or fined as per the signs is the way. Lets not live where there are 100 rules and no one to enforce them its not a positive way to live

As a responsible dog owner, chairman of Haslemere and district dog training club and KCAI instructor, our club members are taught to carry poo bags at all times and to clean up after their dogs. We have plenty of woodland and common areas around Liphook people shouldn`t need to walk their dogs in the local recs and if do so to cross from one side of the village to another keep them on a lead. Radford park is a lovely park area and people should clean up behind their dogs there as well. If this carries on then the local council will go down the route of banning dogs from these areas and it will be too late to moan once this has happened. Not all people love dogs and this should be respected . Our countryside is there for us to look after for future generations, keep it tidy and this includes human litter as well.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- K.Adair (28th Feb 2015 - 10:24:28)

I thought I needed to add to this post, as I came home from work yesterday not too happy, currently working with small children at a nursery we often take the children for small walks around the grass area near to our building. Seeing as yesterday was a lovely day, we put coats on the children and off we went, no longer than being out for 5 minutes, we went to take the children to do some nature investigating but had to turn back as there was something very unpleasant that a dog owner had left behind, then we decided to take a different route to once again discover more, so decided to sadly take the children back to nursery, and were unable to finish our adventure, People of liphook.....what are you doing to the village! Now before anyone says it, I have a dog myself....it really isn't that hard to pick it up....if you are too lazy and disgusting to want to leave it around the village, then don't have the animal in the first place.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- l (28th Feb 2015 - 20:59:45)

K.Adair......that is not good at all, SOME dog owners really have no thought for others.

I often walk out of my garden to find lazy dog owners have let their dogs mess where we have to walk.

DISGUSTING!!!!

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Jan (3rd Mar 2015 - 12:04:40)

I'm posting for 2 reasons, 1, because I'm can't stop laughing at Tony's ignorant comment that ..people walk their dogs on that area so the dogs can empty their bowels (?!), and suggesting that's why people watch dog owners to see if they clean up the mess. You cannot be serious?

Maybe you can tell us why people take their children to the park, is it because they just get fed up of them making their homes untidy with their toys?

The second reason is to show the first two Posts on Talkback, even if for a short time, are the complaints about dogs/dog owners/dog poo.
*head in hands*.

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- l (3rd Mar 2015 - 22:05:24)

Lets not compare children to dogs!

This post is purely pointing out that SOME dog owners do not pick up their dogs mess. And yes......I do watch to see if people pick up after their dog.....if they dont I say something. Or I could pick it up, follow them home and post it through their letter box ;-)

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- freya (4th Mar 2015 - 16:48:10)

Here is another point of view re this dog poo conundrum.

We live in the countryside.
Have any of you ever seen a FOX pick up it's poo.
It has a really strong smell to it and is usually black in colouring.

I'm not sticking up for lazy dog owners.
They give us dog owners who do pick up poo and put it in the bin a bad name.

But there are other animals who live in the countryside and poo as well.

Just a thought....

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- M (8th Mar 2015 - 17:21:02)

right just to bring this thread back to the top, just been the rec with the children, you disgusting people really are giving dog owners a bad name, in the space of 20mtrs three signs prompting owners to pick it up and a piles of s..t by each sign, I know for a fact the pitch was cleared of the mess before yesterday's football matches and surprise surprise today it is covered again, and no it's not foxes, deer, elephant or any other animal !!!

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Kayleigh Adair (8th Mar 2015 - 20:35:45)

So visited the recreation ground with the family today, only to have to avoid yet again, dog poo !!!! I'm actually getting very frustrated with this now....and before anyone else says it....this is NOT aimed at all dog owners, just Lazy dog owners because you quite frankly are disgusting vile people, and yes it may seem slightly over the top with how I am saying this but basically I am getting very angry with this now because you are just plain lazy!!!! I have a dog and I pick it up!!! The worrying thing was that I could see 4 signs all within metres of the poo! So not only lazy, pure ignorance as well. I take my children to the rec to be able to play, running around, kicking a football, flying a kite, only to have to say and keep repeating, "mind the poo", what a joke!! To an 11 year old was hard enough but a 6 year old boy is just so unfair to him, all he wanted to do was just play!!! we should be able to enjoy the large area but no very restricted! As I said this isn't aimed at all dog owners, as while we were there enjoying the squared off area we eventually found clear, I noticed a man turn up with 3 different dogs, running free enjoying it as much as us, and yes they emptied their bowels and well done to that owner because he picked it up and put it into the bin! Why can't you all do the same as myself and this man too....... I will catch you one day and believe me I will make sure the village knows exactly who you are! STOP being so LAZY and PICK UP your dogs S**T!!!!!!

Re: Lazy dog owners!!
- Nicky (9th Mar 2015 - 13:22:57)

Hi. I don't understand why people don't pick up after their dogs - my kids are magnets to the stuff and nearly always manage to tread in deposits that are left despite being on poo-watch when we go to the rec, the green near Sainsburys or Radford park. It's such a health hazard let alone unpleasant.

If your dog is constipated, carry bigger bags! There must be at least one that finds relief when it goes to the Green that must have been bunged up for a week or more. How do owners have the guts (!) to just walk on by after their pooch has left a packet?

Whilst I'm on the subject, I also don't understand why people who have bothered to go to the effort of putting the poo in the plastic bags (well done, pat on the back etc) but why they then hang it in the trees!!??? This was witnessed the other day and the person didn't just lob it in the bushes but delicately hung it like a christmas bauble on a branch! WHY??? That is also disgusting! What do you think is going to happen to it?

Rant over...
