stopping - middle of the road at liphook infants
- wolfie smith (23rd Jan 2015 - 09:22:41)

Yesterday I dropped my little boy off and headed off to work.

As I went to drive down Avenue Close a woman in a 4x4 decided to stop in the middle of the road, get out, get her kid out and then rummage around in her boot for a whole load of stuff.

I counted 6 cars behind her and 2 cars in front. All of which waited without beeping.

I beeped! Which felt like the equivalent of farting in church as people, consumed with embarrassment, looked away. It is an extraordinary selfish and conceited thing to do to stop like that at school run time. And I have to say symptomatic of the Tory/UKIP voting big car driving drongos who roll up at the School. And hardly any of the big car driving drongos can actually drive.

Having spent 20 years in London I kind of got use to people not giving a flying whatever and this sort of thing happening as you head through Brixton and Camberwell.

But not in Liphook.

We all know it's hectic dropping the kid off at Liphook Juniors/Infants. And when my boy is a bit older we'll be walking to school. But the level of me, me, me ness never fails to amaze me.

Wolfie, I suspect no-one else beeped as in Liphook we are generally an understanding tolerant bunch, so perhaps you should park your London arrogance and impatience (along with your left wing anti 4x4 claptrap) elsewhere.

Wolfie....the main problem with parking and congestion around the schools is that too many people choose to drive instead of walk. You mention that ".. when my boy is a bit older we'll be walking to school." Why not start walking now?

Have experienced this in the Headley Road just before the turning into The Avenue in the don't park here zig zags.

I would say unbelievable but sadly it is not out of the ordinary in Liphook at all.

The arrogance of drivers, particularly in the morning school rush is almost enough to want to make you put a camera in your car. Especially those who decide that despite the fact that a parked vehicle is on their side of the road that they have the absolute right to come at you head on anyway. As does the one behind and the one behind despite there being absolutely no room in the road.

Where are those long promised double yellow lines?

Well said Wolfie

I have to drive my children in to school, as were we live there are NO pavements NO street lights and the children would have to cross on a blind bend.

Anyway, when the extra house have been built Liphook will be at a standstill and the VILLAGE will be a BIG NO DRIVE ZONE, and know one will be to drive anywhere, Happy days!!!!

There will surely come a time, in the not too distant future, when Liphook will need a one-way system in place in order to avoid total gridlock at busy times.

I remember when Alton town centre became one-way and the huge difference it made in keeping the traffic moving.

First, I have to agree with the initial statement, this is an example of extremely selfish driving, something which is becoming increasingly more commonplace sadly. I too would have certainly hooted on the basis that she may well not have been aware how inconsiderate she was being.

However, the premise that this is "symptomatic of the Tory/UKIP voting big car driving drongos who roll up at the School. And hardly any of the big car driving drongos can actually drive" is utterly moronic. Words almost failed me.

Politics of Envy, perhaps, would be a good description.

Come the glorious revolution smudger my comrades will ensure you are one of the first people who has there possessions given to the proletariat.

Then we'll nationalise you.

Then you're off to Sibera or Lambeth.

We haven't decided yet.

And if you want a more unequal and selfish society you carry on with the Tories and with (the BNP lite) UKIP faragistas.

I don't mind paying tax, support the NHS and are utterly dismayed that people I work with in London are going to foodbanks.

In the UK in 2015.

Wolfie, you are assuming I have possessions, but like most people in this area, just work very hard just to get by, don't expect other people to support me and am not envious of those that have done well and drive bigger cars than me.

However very amused by your left wing archaic "up the workers" nonsense Made me feel quite nostalgic for the 70's and at least I will know whose shoulder to look on when I want some chips.

"And when my boy is a bit older we'll be walking to school"

Maybe if you got off your backside now rather than waiting for your little boy to reach 15 before you deem him suitably old enough to walk in to school holding your hand you wouldn't have been so inconvenienced.

Most school aged 4/5 year olds can do it.

Get a life

Wolfie, completely relevant point about traffic totally overshadowed by the stupidity of the rest of your post.

Inconsiderate parking/behaviour near school during school run time.
= Not on !

Being annoyed at the amount of traffic as parents deliver hundreds of children to one location within a 20 min timeslot and/or convincing yourself you know why (Everyone should walk to school) or solution (No parking near school)
= Get over it !

Whilst walking our children to school I see one family getting into the car in the Meads driving the short distance to Liphook infants and then driving straight back again. It is this sort of behaviour that makes a bad situation worse, pure lazyness. The ironic thing is that we usually beat them.

Ok everyone, shall we try and remember that this is supposed to be a forum for people to freely state their opinions on things happening around us...and not an opportunity to launch personal attacks on people?

Good points, well made are always welcome. But, really, sometimes I seriously think people need to find better things to do with their time than take EVERY single comment on TalkBack to heart and let it bother them so...

Wolfie,
I would have thought the Tory supporters you so hate would be using private prep schools - not the local state infant School.

Interesting theory on political support and driving skills though, any scientific basis for this?

I would walk next time - you might find it less stressful.
