generator hum from caravan London Rd lay-by
- G Smyth (15th Jan 2015 - 23:20:11)

Anyone else bothered by the loud caravan generator which was running very late Thursday night? Caravan is parked in the main lay-by on London Rd before A3.

Live too far away to hear any noise. Is it legal to park on the pavement? What's the story here any way?

A layby is not a pavement, it is part of the highway where cars can park unless there are restrictions, such as outside one's own house. Lorry drivers overnight in them

The caravan is on the pavement more or less blocking it chained to the nearby railings it is not on the road. Surely this cannot be right!!

Caravan is parked blocking pavement and someone is sleeping in it. Got nothing against this but they are using a petrol generator which is rather noisy. For example, Generator was running all Saturday night and into Sunday morning and kept us awake.

When I passed the caravan last Saturday afternoon, there was a handwritten notice in the window giving a mobile phone number and a message saying something along the lines of ....any enquiries phone this number. I assumed it was an advertisement to try and sell it.

I am surprised to hear someone is living in it,, but if that's the case, my assumption is that it has been parked where it has, so the owner can empty the chemical loo in the river. I'd like to know if this is legally allowed.

Can't see any reason why it has been parked right on the pavement rather than on the road, unless it is an attempt to keep it out of the way, but that doesn't make much sense as there would be enough room for vehicles to pass even if it was on the road..

There were no wheels on the caravan, presumably they've been removed by the owner so no one can just tow it away.

I feel for the poster who has to suffer the noise of the generator at night, hopefully you have reported it to the council department that deal with nuisance noise..

Has anyone got any updates / news on this ongoing problem?

Went past caravan on early evening thursday and a car pulled up and man got out and proceeded to fill generator with fuel.
No condensation on caravan windows.
Generator running 24/7 but uncertain if caravan occupied.

Any tax-payer would have been legally removed from there by now. "Travellers" allowed...

Looks like this caravan is staying??? A new site maybe as the land has recently been sold? Generator running all today so far.

Well the generator has been going all day yet again. Again causing noise. During the week every night until very late.
Is there really going to be a new site on the the recently sold land?

I thought you said that it was parked ON the pavement? a pavement is owned by the Highways Dept, they would not sell pavements?

Has anyone reported this to either Hampshire Highways or Environmental Health at EHDC.

I'm sure that one or both of those would be able to take action to have the caravan removed (or at the very least have the generator silenced at night)

Unfortunately it looks like this caravan is staying another week. Authorities are aware.
