cost of Petrol in Liphook.
- Dawn Hoskins (8th Dec 2014 - 23:49:25)

cost of Petrol in Liphook.

I am getting so cross with Liphook Sainsburys for overcharging us for petrol.

Our Sainsburys today for unleaded - 120.9p
Farnham Sainsburys (which has local competition) 117.9p

Blame the people who gave planning on old jet petrol station site for flats failing that shop around

It's a bit misleading to say they are overcharging.

Because they have no local competition they are charging what is probably the current true market price for petrol

Many supermarkets in areas like Farnham, Aldershot etc where there is competition will cut their price for petrol to a price which brings in customers, but probably means they lose a few pence on each litre of fuel they sell, but they hope while in the petrol station you will either buy something in the petrol station shop or you will go the supermarket while you are there to purchase other items - i.e. it is a 'loss leader' for them.

But supermarkets aren't stupid, where there is no competition they will charge the market price - it's the old law of supply and demand.

If you don't like the price, go to Farnham to fill up, but bear in mind you are probably using a few litres of petrol to get there and back, so the saving may not be as big as you think (unless of course your are already going to Fareham for work or pleasure).

I find the Sainsburys fuel in Liphook can be quite competitive. I use the site petrolprices.com to find the cheapest in the area. I use diesel and it currently lists the Sainsburys in Liphook as the cheapest for a 10 mile radius. This is cheaper than anything in surrounding towns like Haslemere, Bordon or Petersfield.

However, I do often use the Sainsburys in Fanham as this is often the cheapest outside this range but I only go there when it’s is on my way.

I've just discovered the petrol station on the Hogs back, it's cheap, it's on my home from work and they have a Costa.

I realise it's a bit of a drive but I was there anyway earlier...Asda in Havant was 115.7p!

Problem with Asda's is that it may be cheap, but like Sainsbury it is low grade fuel. Better to use non-supermarket and be kind to your car. Incidentally, whilst you pay more, you generally get increased mileage and better performance from it

Just filled up at a jet garage in Emsworth with diesel 119 and petrol 115.

Not worth going to Sainsbury's as food is much cheaper down there as well.

If you shop at Tesco and sign up for Fuelsaver, you can buy your petrol with up to a 20 pence discount at Aldershot. We do it every month and it has saved a small fortune - it's worth driving the miles. Last month I think we paid £1.05 per litre.

We have a picnic next to the awesome Duke of Wellington statue nearby, watching people walking their dogs. Time out. We buy our picnic at the Water Lane Sainsburys on the roundabout at Farnham, en route.

You get 2p off per litre for every £50 you spend in the Tesco fuel save. Up to a maximum of 20p per litre discount. You can use this once. The savings accumulate for the follwing month and are valid for the month. Eg current spends are for January discount. I have paid £1.05 per litre in Havent. (But spent £500 to get this).

- Dollypops (11th Dec 2014 - 14:04:25)

But if you are spending anyway, it's a bonus. We do not spend just to get the discount. In addition, there are the restaurant etc. vouchers which are also very welcome.

Sainsbury's fuel price, you buy it at that price they will continue selling at that price, I am lucky enough to get my fuel out of the area and at present buy my diesel at Sainbury's Crawley at an amazing price of 119.9 per litre.

if you going south down the A3 - always worth jumping off at Junction 2 for morrisons. fuel there is competitive and you are not going miles out of the way

Just come pass Sainsbuy's Farnham. The price of diesel is £118.9
Good old Liphook, still lagging behind even with the one penny reduction.

If would be interesting if the management of Sainsbury's would care to comment on the pricing structure.

Bordon service stations are quite cheap........

If you can, it's worthwhile downloading one of the many apps that let you check fuel prices in an area or along a route. I've been using Petrol Prices Pro for about 2 years, recently I refuelled in Rickmansworth at 1.169 / litre as a result (98 RON).

While I would also shop around, when you work out the difference between a low and high price for litre sometimes it's not much more than roughly 70p per tank. Hence I'll refuel at Sainsburys if I need to, but given the choice will always find the cheapest en route via the app.

I've just been shopping in Waterlooville; there is a brand new Sainsbury' s there with a filling station - I've just filled up for £1.12 for unleaded :)

Has any body worked out that liphook is classed as rural therefore pays a higher price for fuel as it costs more to get it here and sainsburys has no competition in liphook as you need to go out of way to find another petrol station

Re: cost of Petrol in Liphook.
- Janet A (18th Dec 2014 - 00:38:26)

I filled up at Liphook Sainsbury's this evening and unleaded was 1.17 per litre (well almost, it was 116.9p).

Re: cost of Petrol in Liphook.
- Richard (18th Dec 2014 - 12:11:53)

Sainsbury, Camberley 112.9p for unleaded

Re: cost of Petrol in Liphook.
- Peter (18th Dec 2014 - 21:01:23)

Yes Sainsburys always seems to lag, but tonight unleaded is down to 114.9p
