Willows nursery - update!!
- Editor (7th Nov 2014 - 09:04:33)

This thread has been removed, after requests from both the parent who originally started it and the council.

Draw your own conclusions.

This is outrageous! It is disgusting that members of the parish community can not post on matters important to them on the forum in case it reflects badly on the Parish Council. If it reflects badly on the Parish Council then perhaps it is because they are behaving badly!

Whatever happened to democracy and freedom of speech. This matter is important to the community and should be in the public domain despite the Parich Council deciding otherwise.

local politicians, national politicians, they are all the same, despair is an understatement!

I went to a Council meeting about a month ago, and what I saw there really horrified me. It is more about the archaic rigmarole of how to behave at Council meetings than actually working for Liphook. It does make me wonder why these people chose to become Council members as there appeared to be no great interest in actually listening to the people of Liphook.
I found the whole process a pointless exercise, with members being more concerned about their status around the table, and believe me that appeared to be fractious.

The only answer to those that are unhappy about these situations is that as a village we need to act with our votes!! We need new people to stand for election and then for people to use their vote and vote them in!!! That way we will have a council who will speak on behalf of the village!

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- Dawn Hoskins (7th Nov 2014 - 12:15:10)

I am very upset that the Parish council would ask for a discussion thread to be removed. Very upset indeed.

I know that a lot of things have been misunderstood (mainly councill procedures etc) so people have blamed the Parish Council for things - when if they had understood council processes they wouldn't have done.

But that is not a reason the the Parish Council to act as Big Brother and get conversation removed.

I am going to find out about this and if it is true I will be in the line to make a formal complaint!

Does the Original Poster also want the thread removed? Was pressure put on the Original Poster to ask for removal? Can someone please confirm before I go off like a rocket!

Dawn - we were upset at the attitude of the Parish Council generally, not as a result of not understanding "procedure". I looked up the quoted "Government Restrictions" on time allowed for Public Participation i.e. 15 minutes, and it clearly states "at the discretion of the Chairman", that is not misunderstanding, that is the Council not being honest.....

I have just read the original posting with an entry on there today!

The thread that had it's content removed was this thread - NOT the original Help!!! The Willows Nursery

It\\\'s time the people on the council got out of our village, cos the don\\\'t want anything happing that\\\'s against what they want!!!! We need somebody like Tony groves on the council!!! He worked for Liphook & against the bad ideas the council wanted to do. That\\\'s why they set him up & the council lost witch cost £1000\\\'s witch would have paid for the willows nursery to be repaired

In my opinion I think we should start a petition to have the Parish Council abolished. They obviously do not care for what the residents want or need. All out for themselves.

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- Steve (8th Nov 2014 - 10:10:04)

John I am 100% behind you & there will be lots of people to support that idea

The sooner the better I think!!!

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- Phil (8th Nov 2014 - 10:31:04)

@John I completely agree with you. The PC do not appear to have covered themselves in glory in terms of explaining numerous controversial decisions, actions, comings and goings over the years. They hide behind their rights to conduct aspects of business in closed session. They are publicly elected and funded to act on our behalf, and I can't see evidence that they always act impartially, transparently and openly. They display a disdain towards questions from the public who put them there in the first place.

I vote for a show of no confidence in the PC. Perhaps an ePetition should be set up online to force their governing structures to investigate, consider and take appropriate action.

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- John (8th Nov 2014 - 13:08:04)

I would start the online petition myself however I wouldn't know how exactly to word it. Any suggestions?

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- Phl (8th Nov 2014 - 14:21:26)

Just did a quick internet search, interestingly I found a news article about a PC that faced a no confiedence vote by their public and the motion was in fact carried.

I think any statement should be in the following parts:

We the undersigned members of the public within Bramshott and Liphook Parish ...
... have no confidence in the Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council ...
... and demand a public vote of confidence in the Parish Council ...
... in which if the majority vote is one of No Confidence ....
....that the Parish Council resign immediately

Genuine question - if we had no PC, what difference would it actually make?

Also, would the PC like to publicly list say 10 things of significance that they have done for Liphook and of which they are unanimously proud - and which would not have otherwise occurred without their action? There must be at least 10, surely?

For information but not sure if of use.

The Local Government Ombudsman provides a free, independent and impartial service. We consider complaints about the administrative actions of councils and some other authorities. We cannot question what a council has done simply because someone does not agree with it. If we find something has gone wrong, such as poor service, service failure, delay or bad advice and that a person has suffered as a result the Ombudsman aims to get it put right by recommending a suitable remedy.

If aything postive and constructive is to be done about a vote of No Confidence in the Parish Council, there needs to be co-ordinated action, not just a load of posts on Liphook Talkback. This will take time as procedures have to be met and a great deal of effort. However would it not be better, in view of the fact that we have elections next year, for all those who feel dissatisfied with the way BLPC is run, for themselves to get together and stand for election next year. It needs to be people who a) have the time and and are willing to give the time b) have the interests of Liphook and Bramshott at heart and do not have a lot of "hidden agendas" ie personal reasons why something should or should not be done and c) realise that those in public office very very rarely receive a "thank you" even when things go right but very often get the "flack" when the electorate think things have not gone right. You can never please all of the people all of the time. So to sum up people who volunteer for public office such as parish councils need to have integrity, time and a thick skin, So come on all you disenfrancised people, stand next year. I would love to but work full time in London and am often not home until after 7.30 pm - but who knows when I retire!!!!!!

Think it time the pc gave up just resign & do us all a favour!!!! We don't need you with yr narrow minded views.

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- JamesP (10th Nov 2014 - 13:01:53)

It is always worth remembering that the original post is still floating around the Internet. The PC are extremely naive if they think that removing the original post from this site means that it no longer exists...

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- Kat (11th Nov 2014 - 15:17:30)

Many of us are interested to hear what Dawn Hoskins has found out. The Council were blamed because they decided to do what they did. That's got nothing to do with "misunderstanding" or "process". Its just bad decision making, based on inadequate information or facts that the Council were given, and whoever advised them. Who was that?

None of it should have led to the thread be removed, without a valid reason. IMO, disgusting behaviour, and I wonder what else is going on behind closed doors that we should know about. "News is news, and good or bad it is important that it be delivered".

Dawn Hoskins was going to update us on "items missing from Agendas" and the request to remove a post... we are still keen to have these answers.

Re: Willows nursery - update!!
- Val (12th Nov 2014 - 19:33:14)

Yes Dawn it would be great to have an update on items missing on Agendas and the request to have the Thread re: The Willows - Update removed. I am so glad that the PC have seen sense and staved off the evicting The Willows in December and extended their lease until Easter when it appears the owners of the nursery are going to buy the building. Why the powers that be did not contact the owners of The Willows in the first place and engage in dialogue heaven only knows.
