Carnival 2014 Update
- Karen Feeney (29th Oct 2014 - 14:52:44)

Dear All

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who took part or came along to watch. I think it was a great evening and the quality of the floats was, once again, simply amazing!

I would like to answer some of the questions raised on the previous thread.

1. The floats should have and most did travel down the Headley Road to come back round to Bohunt School via The Avenue and Longmoor Road. Not everyone comes down, the marching bands tend to return to Bohunt before coming down Headley Road and a majority of the fire engines have to go straight down the London Road to attend the bonfire.

2. It would be lovely to have more marshals to help with the crowd. Volunteers needed for this one.

3. I will be speaking to St Johns and will mention your comments.

4. I will speak to the fun fair operators regarding the comment about alcohol.

5. This year was NOT the last carnival. We are very much still in business and will be having a Carnival every year until further notice.

6. I have already started reviewing the sound system for next year. I have no control over the Lionel Ritchie song situation....

7. Getting involved next year. The details of float categories and timings is on our website www.liphookcarnival.org.uk

I am very happy to hold a meeting for past and prospective float builders to get together. It is my aim to get more trade floats and we did appeal throughout the year to local businesses to get involved. If anybody would like to join our committee and help me with this next year, we would love to hear from you.

I would like to thank all those lovely cubs and beavers that turned up on Sunday morning to help us clear up. It halved the time it normally takes us and it was absolutely fantastic of them to come along and help us! Is there a 'Community Spirit' badge...there should be!

So, our AGM is in February. Date to be announced in due course. I would love to welcome new people to the committee and obviously we would love to see lots more floats next year.

Thanks for the comments and feedback, it is always good to hear your thoughts....good and bad!

See you next year!

Best wishes
Karen Feeney

Thanks Karen for the update,

I was waiting on Headly Road and at most 4 of the floats came down the road, 1 fire engine that turned into Tower Road en route to Radford Park.
The bands did not as you rightly have said. It was such a shame as opposite us was a little old lady who waited and waited. The co-op girls were great and offered her a chair as she had been there that long.

We did, however have a great evening and Thank you for all your hard work.

I look forward to next year

Really great to get this positive and enthusiastic feedback in anticipation of next year's Carnival.

Please will those who wish to be involved in next year's Carnival, either as a marshal or committee member or if you need advice on participating either as fancy dress, push-pull or a float, send your e-mail address or contact number to Karen on karendowsett@aol.com

A big thank you to all involved in staging another fabulous carnival. What a great thing for the village and how fortunate we are to have such a resilient, positive and tirelessly hard working team, prepared to put so many hours into staging the event for us all to enjoy. Grateful thanks to all.
