CARNIVAL 👍
- lucy (25th Oct 2014 - 22:56:33)

What a great carnival AGAIN!!!

We had a great day, starting off with the Childrens fancy dress this morning (which worked brilliantly this year at the Juniors School).

Not so many floats this year, but the atmosphere was still great! Maybe a note round to local business / clubs etc a couple of months before next year and more will get involved :-)

Well done to all 😃

I agree, well done Karen and all, what a brilliant day and evening !

That was our first ever Liphook Carnival (we moved here in March) and we LOVED IT.
Thank you so much to all involved. Really inspiring sense of community and great fun.
Looking forward to getting involved next year!

Yes, very well done to the Carnival committee for another fantastic evening. And weren't the weather Gods good to us too.! It would be wonderful to have new entries next year so families and groups of friends don't be shy. Put your heads together and join the fun for October 2015.

We had a great time with a little one, but to keep out of the crowds we waited on Headly Road, and waited and waited and waited some more
The odd 3 or 4 floats came past in dibs and drabs, has the route changed?

We loved it! The Lego float is still being talked about at breakfasts this morning, along with the Thriller dance!
Well done to the organisers a great event!
Only one negative we were stood on the roundabout on the square with small children at the front sadly other older children and families stood in front of the tape so the children couldn't see:( more stewards needed.... Sorry but we had a great time!!!
We are now thinking if we can do a float for next year?!?!

What an amazing evening, thanks to everyone for all their hard work. Thouroughly enjoyable, especially the Lego and the Hollycombe vehicles.

Fantastic night! My ten month old had a whale of a time! We are planning on joining in next year with him and his cousins.. We can't wait!

Another brilliant CarnivaI, all thanks to the hard work of the Carnival committee and all those who put in floats, I havent missed a single Carnival and have lived in Liphook more than 40 years.
My only negative from the whole night was the St Johns guys on bikes who cycled up and down the procession trying to create patients by running into them!!

Liphook carnival wasn't really good this year. Not much floats and not much people involved. Also what was the high policy on selling alchol in our local shops but not not no high policy on winning alchol in the fun fair and letting young kids walk away with alchol and not asking for I.d which I noticed last night. Hope liphook can do better next year.

I agree with all the really good things that have been said about the carnival. I have been going for years and it never looses its magic. more push and pull and walking fancy dress would be good. The fireworks were something else. Where else could you see such a fantastic display for free.? Well done the committee. I do hope all your hard work has paid off moneywise

Having lived in Liphook for 20+ years now we have always attended the carnival and always do a circuit from the square, down Portsmouth Road, Station Road and back down to the square again. Over the years the floats have got less and less, and I think we counted only 6 this year... It's so sad to see it like this. I remember years ago there used to be 20 or more floats! We also noticed a number of carnival regulars who have been doing it for years, such as the new townies and the liphook dance academy, were not present this year which was a shame. However, I suppose as the years go by more people are working longer later hours, fewer people have time or spare money to build the floats.

I did hear rumours that due to the lack of procession floats and the lack of volunteers that this year was probably the last year they were going to have floats going around the village. Is this true? Would be such a shame if the tradition ended but I suppose if fewer people participate, its going to eventually happen :(

Well done to Liphook in Bloom float for collecting well over £600. Brilliant gnomes, so friendly and in the spirit of the whole evening. These people do so much for our village. Thank You.

Brilliant carnival once again and it really does not matter what scale it is on, clearly it was enjoyed by many. BIG thank you to the organisers once again, not just for organising the event but also for what must have been a massive clear up afterwards. We are very lucky in this village to have the carnival.

I had a wonderful time with my Children, however the only criticism I can make is that the speaker box trailer thing outside the bank wasn't loud enough. When some of the bigger floats went by, I couldn't hear it at all.

The Mary Poppins lorry was so loud (playing Lionel Ritchie - how does that fit in.....) that my Son had to cover his ears. Surely there is a limit as to how loud things can be?

We love the carnival - thank you to all who organised and took part - especially to those who DID come down the Headley Road as advertised.

It's such a shame a large number (including all the bands) turn back off down the Longmoor Road and don't come down the Headley Road- as my Mum says "When we were young we used to go all out round Malthouse Meadows as well". Sadly she can barely walk anywhere these days and certainly wouldn't be able to see anything if we took her up to The Square so we have the annual family gathering outside her house in Headley Road and enjoy what there is that passes by. We can even see the Radford fireworks from the back garden.

At least thanks to Talkback we know why we didn't see Finchie on his wheels. We thought he'd lost his nerve!

Hi,

Have been to Liphook Carnival almost every year for the last 20 years and love the tradition, community feel to it.
Does any body have any information on how to get a float involved for next year? Do we have to \'sign up\' as such?
many thanks

Re: CARNIVAL 👍
- Nicola (28th Oct 2014 - 16:28:05)

Well done to Karen & the carnival committee for another great year! Some super floats & a lovely atmosphere ! My only criticism is that we were sitting along the headley road towards the Co-op & only a handful of floats came along which was quite disappointing, but enjoyed the evening nonetheless :)

Re: CARNIVAL 👍
- chris (28th Oct 2014 - 18:06:41)

Perhaps it would be an idea for the Carnival Committee to arrange an event a few months before next year's Carnival where those who regularly take part and know how things work could share information and ideas with those who would like to join in with a float ( however small) but have been put off by fear of the unknown!

This could help get the numbers up and make sure our great Liphook Carnival continues.

Re: CARNIVAL 👍
- jmp (28th Oct 2014 - 19:15:20)

From how I have read the map, the Floats weren't due to do go down Headley Road.

Re: CARNIVAL 👍
- Donna (28th Oct 2014 - 21:11:14)

The map I looked at was on the 2014 website, it doesn't use the road names, but looks like it should go down Headly Road
Perhaps someone who is clever could copy and paste the map for me

I can see the problem. The route marked with 'empty' triangles is for floats to use to assemble for judging. It looks like the 'key' for the map symbols has gone missing.

Re: CARNIVAL 👍
- Donna (28th Oct 2014 - 21:25:21)

That's a real shame, as there was quite a few of us waiting and waiting and waiting!!

So, for future reference, the carnival does not go down the Headly Road?
