we were vandalised
- wendy (19th Oct 2014 - 12:34:16)

Last night about 2am I was woken up by the sound of a loud thud on the roof, and then the noise of broken glass. I tried to see what was happening but it was dark, and so I could see nothing. I was quite frightened, thinking we were going to be burgled, but when I put the light on it all went quiet. When it was daylight I went into the garden, there were two or three whole wine, and beer bottles on the lawn, and smashed wine and beer bottles everywhere, and it smelt strongly of stale booze. We are an elderly couple, and my poor husband, who's 81 has just spent two hours wearing very strong gloves to clear up as much of the shards of glass as he could. If there had been small children living here, and they had run outside, they would have been cut to pieces. Why, do people do such things? I put this on here, in case anyone else hears such noises in the night.

Hi Wendy,
That's a really awful thing to have happened. If you haven't already, you should report it to the police. call them on the 101 number.

If it happens again, call 999.

Nobody should be on your property (including your garden/ outside space) making you feel unsafe.

I hope you and your husband get over this quickly and it doesn't happen again.

this is very sad but we came home latish around 1.00am and there were some loutish lads hanging around the square, so perhaps it was them. hopefully neighbours will be vigilant and call the police next time, though the police cars do seem to be around often on friday and saturday nights. This is still one of the best villages though and these disturbances are by a minority.

Sorry for you. We live in Haslemere Road. Most weekends there are disturbances - be it fights in the street or vandalism. A few weeks ago the Anchor Garage had some of their cars on the forecourt damaged, prompting us to move our vehicles from outside our home at weekends. Usually there are bottles dumped on or near our door step - sometimes thrown. We\'ve had people thumping on the front door late at night, banging the window - even someone vomiting over one of our vehicles. It really is vile.
Sadly, don\'t believe the police can or will do anything. Wish we still had local Bobbies.

we tried phoning our local police, it was shut, then we were put on hold by the hampshire main police, after ages we put the phone down.
Thank you all for your replies

Wendy
Sorry to hear of your recent experience - we know how upsetting this can be as we too have been subject to anti social behaviour and vandalism. Our local pcso's have advised to always report to 101 as if it happens frequently enough the area will be designated a hotspot and receive attention. I believe that the police are more in evidence now as a result but they can't be everywhere and at the right time.
Obviously dial 999 if an emergency.

Nobody wants to deny people enjoying themselves but sad to say some people don't care what they do or how it affects others.

Let's hope that carnival night shows all ages can go out safely and enjoy themselves without causing harm or distress to others
