Train failure
- Mark (1st Oct 2014 - 08:53:27)

Surprised that the 1815-1910 Waterloo to Liphook train failed to stop at Liphook, as the driver "forgot". Very annoying as a long wait at Liss and for passengers trying to get from Liphook to Portsmouth etc followed.

Has this happened before?

Slightly more worried that the trains and signals allow a train that is supposed to stop to pass through at high speed.

Guard also failed to say much until we arrived at Liss.

From Twitter ...

@SW_Trains epic fail. Disgrace. 1815 Waterloo Driver forgets to stop at Liphook then dumps everyone with no help. Very very poor. Signals?

The train driver 'forgot to stop at Liphook' @SW_Trains this is hilarious

@SW_Trains 1815 Waterloo to Liphook failed to stop at Liphook as you will be aware next service back 2002 gave up....

@SW_Trains stranded in #liss earlier as your driver failed to stop at #liphook how is this possible?

@railcomuta @SW_Trains This is the 3rd time it's happened to me ,not for a while I would add. Only fast service to Liphook in an evening.

@SW_Trains Why did the train not stop at Liphook then?

@SW_Trains how will u compensate passengers for driver failing to stop train in Liphook? @damian57

@SW_Trains why did you abandon passengers in LIss for 50mins after driver forgot to stop train in Liphook?

@SW_Trains 1815 from WAT driver FORGOT to stop at Liphook - passengers abandoned at Liss

@SW_Trains what action will be taken re the the driver not stopping at Liphook tonight and the inconvenience it has caused tonight ?

@SW_Trains train driver just 'forgot' to stop at liphook tonight. Without another train back from liss for 40 mins, how will you compensate?

@SW_Trains think driver of the 615 to pmouth hbr might have had a liquid lunch. He forgot to stop at liphook. Classic

Amazingly just spoke to ticket staff at Haslemere (not friendly Liphook team) and absolutely no apology just "didn't know, that happened last week too" and they said no alarm or signal would alert driver or stop the train and sometimes, if running late, they decide not to stop at Liphook and Liss. When I asked if passengers would be told to get off at Haslemere they said no.

I guess they feel under no obligation to stop at our station.

Truly the worst customer service. Hope they lose the franchise or get fined as they don't seem to care.

I was on this train and while it was annoying to have to wait at Liss for 45, my greater concern was how this is able to happen. I raised my concerns to SWT on Twitter and had a couple of messages in response from people who were supporting the driver. Along the lines of 'he has to stop at 200 stations a day so can't be blamed for missing one'!

I'm looking forward to hearing the results of an investigation from SWT.

Totally agree. Understand human error (although responses I got on social media hint that it's happened five times) but surely there must be an alarm system.

Maybe the guard should make an announcement a couple of minutes before the train is due in, saying that the next stop will be Liphook.

Presumably the driver hears the announcements? Unless he is deaf...

I didn't realise it was such a regular occurrence, and there's me believing for all these year's that I must have fallen asleep.

Re: Train failure

... from my other half who was on train and spoke with the guard, "the driver didn't read the map correctly", so either the map was upside down - Liss comes before Liphook - OR why on a railway line do you need a map, unless he thought there was a short cut....

... other half asked if train could be reversed up the line back to Liphook, to the sound of guard running off to wherever.

Still.......... not as bad as the delays after a person fell between a train and the platform at Haslemere Station on Monday evening
