What qualifies a newcomer to be truly LOCAL?
- Paul Ellis (30th Sep 2014 - 10:08:49)

My wife and I plus one small child came to live in Liphook on the 1st October 1964. So I asked a well known 'local' young man what qualifies newcomers to be recognised as 'local' and was told 20 years. After 20 years elapsed I spoke to him again to claim the right to be a 'local' to which he replied that the time factor had gone up to 25 years. What on earth is the current qualifying time?

According to some of the posts on this site you need to pass a probation period of 5 years to command any sort of respect from your neighbours.

However the full Local entitlement award is indeed 25 years at present, your man was correct. You forgot to add the 5 years of respect inflation on top of the original 20 he correctly quoted you in 1963.

:)

A definition of local is somone or something living in that particular location. Perhaps the question should relate to what constitutes a long term resident of the area. These days I do not think that apart from having the history of the area to hand, and probably your heritage as well, it would gain any brownie points apart from an interesting personal conversation. I personally like history and think it important but it is nothing to do with being local!

Parking on the Avenue during school run = you are a local

I guess you have to be born here. Not so bad now but we moved here over 50years ago and we may just qualify as local in some peoples eyes.Love it here even with all its expansion and parking problems

Do not understand this thread? what has it got to do with East Hampshire District Council? Is this concerned with allocations for social housing? why not say so?

Wow sorry didn't mean to rub u up the wrong way my point is that no one knows the length of time u are considered a local and yes my reference to Ehdc was to do with the social housing !!!!!
