Fibre Optic Broadband
- Boris (22nd Sep 2014 - 00:21:22)

Does anybody know when the fibre optic broadband will become operative in Liphook?

The cabinets all seem to be in place.

BT website only seems to say September. No date.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Oliver (24th Sep 2014 - 10:43:39)

The BT website has a date of 30th Sept.
I did ask when we would be able to place orders and was told we need to keep checking the site to see when the status changes to 'Accepting Orders'

As a local ISP, fast.uk, we are checking the status of Liphook exchange daily - we will post here as soon as our first order is accepted for FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet). Unfortunately Passfield will not benefit from this.

- Ryan (24th Sep 2014 - 13:51:21)

I'm looking forward to the faster broadband speeds, but does anyone know if it will only be available via BT? I'm with Sky, I would prefer to stick with them but if they can't compete on speed i'll have to leave them.

FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) is available to all ISP's who are a customer of BT Wholesale, so I'd expect you to be able to receive it from Sky.

If Sky can't, why not support a local ISP and a sponsor of this site fast.uk :-)

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Ryan (24th Sep 2014 - 16:15:34)

I may just do that, I would prefer to if the service/cost is there or there abouts. I'll take a look at the options when the service is up.

Does anyone know if this will make it down to the GriggsGreen end? Bircholt estate etc.

Thanks

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Tina (24th Sep 2014 - 21:24:47)

I kept having to re boot our router for our BT broadband, is this because they are working on upgrading that we keep losing our normal service? Or maybe it\'s all these power cuts that have upset the router? Anyone else having problems with their BT internet

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Katy (25th Sep 2014 - 11:00:45)

Tina, our BT broadband kept dropping over several weeks. It took numerous calls to BT, two engineer visits, a new router, socket, and line and hopefully problem now fixed, fingers crossed! They did not seem to know why it kept dropping but it did seem to coincide with them installing the new Infinity boxes round the village. Hope this helps and good luck!

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Mark (25th Sep 2014 - 16:44:03)

The upgrade work to roll out FTTC won't disrupt current services - if you're having a problem you should report it to your ISP.

If your ISP is hard to contact, or won't fix it, move to a better ISP ! :-)

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Ryan (1st Oct 2014 - 10:13:01)

I have just called BT to see if they could let me know when the service will be available. I was told this -

The exchange cabinet is done, now we have to wait for the street cabinets to be enabled which may involve digging up roads. I asked how long does that usually take, I was told a few months on average. So, looks like it will be 2015 :(

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Alan (27th Oct 2014 - 12:56:47)

Hi

Just to confirm we have placed our first FTTC upgrade order in Liphook.

So, in theory, you should now be able to contact your own ISP's and discuss upgrade options and pricing.

- Michael McCord (31st Oct 2014 - 15:42:58)

I have just ordered fibre broadband from TalkTalk (yesterday 30/10) and it will be live on 11/11.

Yippee!

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Col (1st Nov 2014 - 22:21:07)

Rung up BT today, only part of Liphook has been activated or connected to the exchange. I believe Haslemere Road residents can order infinity, only Liphook cabinet 1 and 6 have been activated. I was told by BT that the other cabinets should be connected to the exchange soon, hopefully by the end of the month.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Colin (2nd Nov 2014 - 18:01:11)

Does anyone know where the six cabinets are located?

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- james (6th Nov 2014 - 18:39:01)

I ordered infinity last week in Bramshott, should be active on 17/11.

This rather functional looking website can give you data on your cabinet.

www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome

You need WBC Fixed Rate to be available, before you can order superfast BB.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Glynis (9th Nov 2014 - 21:31:09)

Just ordered fibre optic from Sky. Like the person in Bramshott I'm told it will go live 17th November. Haslemere Road area Liphook.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Oliver (10th Nov 2014 - 14:11:24)

I live in Canada Way and have just been told that there is currently no date for when I can get BT Infinity :/

It looks like some parts of Liphook are getting it and others have to wait ?

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Simon (10th Nov 2014 - 15:46:09)

Had Infinity switched on last Friday, seems pretty quick. We're in Tunbridge Crescent.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Gloater (10th Nov 2014 - 17:30:40)

Also our Fibre Optic was switched on Friday sorry, Haslemere Road

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Boris (12th Nov 2014 - 01:20:52)

If you put your telephone number in at the site previously mentioned above, you will find out which cabinet you are connected to. Cabinet number 1 is apparantly the one near the public telephone box near the Co-Op.

I would be interested to know from those already connected to the fibre optic system if they are getting the speed they are paying for.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Alan (12th Nov 2014 - 08:13:33)

Speedtest.net run on Iphone5s

Download 46.12 Mbps
Upload 18.43 Mbps

Compared with pre-fttc figures of 12 Mbps down and 0.3 Mbps upload.

So a major performance gain, at least until exchange gets overloaded as more and more people get access to the higher speeds.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- JKB (12th Nov 2014 - 19:17:31)

Cabinet 4 now taking orders (Bohunt area).
Doing mine now!

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- SR (13th Nov 2014 - 10:04:35)

I'm in Huron Drive and just placed an order ...

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Mark (13th Nov 2014 - 18:31:29)

Just be careful - i was given a switch over date and told i would be charged a "premium price for a premium product."

That date has come and gone and i have no internet or telephone at all. BT have said it will take 5 days to get both back.

They have also told me that the cabling has not been completed between the box and the house and this will need to be repaired. On a separate call they have told me that i should not have been offered Infinity as it was not ready. On a third call they keep saying i have a perfectly functioning service, which i do not have...

I am certainly confused.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Mark (13th Nov 2014 - 19:58:03)

After a 1hr 35 minute call to BT (on a functioning phone) they eventually said the copper cabling between the cabinet and the property sometimes cannot cope with superfast broadband and this has been a widespread problem. At one point they also told me Liphook has FTP (fibre to property) but when i queried this repeatedly they eventually said it didn't.

The upshot is no phone or broadband, and no possibility of even switching back in the short term, until next Thursday - seems ridiculous. Engineers will evaluate the response tomorrow (2 days after it occured) and may start work on monday or tuesday or wednesday or thursday...

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- George (14th Nov 2014 - 16:06:46)

Are certain cabinets being activated at different times?
I live in the Bohunt area and was told that fibre optic would not be available to me till March 2015 by a BT representative.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Rachel (14th Nov 2014 - 19:26:44)

Hi, we live at the bottom end of Longmoor Road. We recived our new Router today and will be switched on on Tuesday 18th November!
No problems so far! We are with Talk Talk.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Oliver (17th Nov 2014 - 13:49:09)

I checked the BT site today (where you enter your phone number, not the one where you enter your postcode) and I can order fibre.

Order placed with my ISP (Zen) today.

I live in Canada Way

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- H (17th Nov 2014 - 19:59:10)

Rachel - which end of Longmoor Road? We're in Griggs Gren and there's no sign of it yet on the BT website.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- JKB (19th Nov 2014 - 19:16:46)

Alas after waiting in for half a day, no BT engineer showed up. Neither did they call.
After 45 minutes on the phone to them they cannot install fibre optic until further notice, and cannot explain why.
Bohunt area, Cabinet 4.
Good old BT, same as ever.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Peter (20th Nov 2014 - 21:11:26)

Passfield

Passfield connected customers do not benefit form cabinets, therefore there is nothing for BT to upgrade to 'superfast'.

The solution is fot BT to install new cabinet(s), which cost more, and therefore will not happen overnight. Suggestion would be,

a) continue to log your interest with BT and HCC

b) pressure your District Councillor or County Councillor to get HCC to speed up the broadband rollout plan for Passfield.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Oliver (25th Nov 2014 - 18:05:46)

BT engineer visited today and performed the upgrade
I am in Canada Way and am now getting 55MB down and 15MB up

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Rachel (25th Nov 2014 - 19:43:45)

Hi H, we live in the cul-du-sac Forest Lane Close, just before the bend and the bridge!
Hope this helps!

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- H (26th Nov 2014 - 13:11:12)

Hi Rachel

That explains it then, thanks! You live pretty much in the middle of Longmoor Road if you look at google maps which is why you can get it. We live nearer the end - beyond Old Thorns, and we have no high speed broadband yet :-(

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- SR (3rd Dec 2014 - 17:02:42)

Hi , Has anyone got fibre in Huron Drive yet ? .. What speeds are you getting ? .I have the 48mb package... I'm only getting 20Mb down and 8Mb up :(

Think its cabinet 14

Thanks

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Oliver (4th Dec 2014 - 07:52:58)

That's very odd - I'm just down the road (Canada Way) and I'm getting 55/15
I think I am Cabinet 13 though

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- H (4th Dec 2014 - 11:24:03)

Great. The BT Open Reach website is now saying this is "Under Review" as to whether the Griggs Green cabinet can be upgraded.

I'm not sure they know what they're doing.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Marion (6th Dec 2014 - 16:36:40)

Ordered BT FTTC upgrade 6 Dec - activation date 12 Jan 2015. Believe it when we get it !

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Faye (10th Dec 2014 - 20:06:01)

I saw BT at the Griggs Green cabinet last week so seems they are on the case possibly!?

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- H (11th Dec 2014 - 19:19:13)

Faye - they're always there and they always seem to knock someone's phone out when they mess about with that cabinet. We've had it twice in the last couple of months.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Nick Hancock (18th Dec 2014 - 20:55:50)

PlusNet fibre broadband and phone installed today and already getting download speeds of 40+ Mbps. (They say to allow a couple of days before you get a proper indication of performance). Costs just a little more than my old TalkTalk package - to upgrade I would have had to take their TV package, which I didn't want.

Downsides with PlusNet - they originally booked the wrong sort of installation, which cost a couple of weeks to sort, and they didn't tell me that there was a small chance that I woiuld have to change my phone no. We were unexpectedly without a phone today for a bit but amazingly it was all sorted after a stroppy phone call from me this afternoon.

No reason you would have to change your number, unless a mistake was made. Do remember Plusnet are owned by BT, so please consider using a local ISP when your renewal comes up!

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Col (12th Jan 2015 - 01:12:41)

Just to let Liphook residents know, since Christmas 2014 BT have been hard at work enabling more cabinets in the village with fibre optic internet. Portsmouth Road and Haslemere Road residents are now able to order fibre optic broadband from their ISP if they wish, we have just been upgraded and are running 68mb download and 12mb upload speeds, almost 4x what we used to be able to get.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- H (12th Jan 2015 - 09:26:15)

It's still showing as "Under Review" for the Griggs Green cabinet.

I wish they could tell us either way and be done with it

AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghghghghghghghgh.

Re: Fibre Optic Broadband
- Mairead (12th Jan 2015 - 16:00:51)

It's still also showing cabinet 10 (I think) which is beside The Firs behind Bohunt school playing fields as "under review". Anyone know whether you can change your cabinet (I presume not) as I am sure there are closer ones to us (we live on Chiltley Lane off Midhurst road). I would have thought that we would get it early given all the digging up that was done of the Midhurst Road.......Anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks
