Home phone
- JG (18th Sep 2014 - 09:08:49)

My home phone isn't taking incoming calls, it just rings once and then cuts off. I can make outgoing calls and have the internet connection. I have tried unplugging all but the first one into the house but still no joy. If anyone can offer any suggestions I would be really grateful.

So, more than one handset in the house only rings once ?

If you pick up the phone AFTER it has stopped ringing is the person calling you there ?

Have you tried another handset ?

Call your phone provider and report a fault.

Thank you for your reply. We have 3 handsets and if all are plugged in each one rings only once, and then cuts the line dead. the same happens if only one is plugged in. Our provider says there is no fault on the line.

If you take off the lower half of the front plate on your master socket (it should be connected by a few wires - just let it hang loosely) you will find another phone socket hidden away.

Your broadband will die when you do that (or should).

Plug a handset directly into that hidden socket - if the problem persists it is an exchange fault - report it again.

Thanks for your help but it was actually the answerphone somehow. We switched it off and then on again and all is well.

It's nice to know there is someone out there willing to help and give advice so thanks talkback.
