stinky bonfire
- SJ (13th Sep 2014 - 20:57:04)

Would whoever is starting a stinky bonfire in the Portsmouth Road area at sundown every evening please stop! I know it is not against the law but it is really inconsiderate to fill houses with acrid fumes every evening for at least the last 4 weeks at the same time ... just as the sun sets. I have the bedroom windows open to air the house and ... the house fills with smoke! Not nice. Please consider your neighbours whoever you are.... take your rubbish to the tip perhaps!?

It is illegal to deny or affect your neighbours enjoyment of their property by means of pollution, however caused. If you were to contact your offending neighbour to reasonably explain how you are being detrimentally affected by their actions and they choose to ignore your concerns and carry on, you can contact your local Environment Health Dept, who will contact the offending neighbour in writing to warn them that they could become subject to a court order to cease.
Alternatively, just contact the EHO if you don't fancy the confrontation. They will act
You are not powerless in this. The law is on your side. Use it if you need to

Thank you very much. Fortunately they haven't had any more but thanks to your advice I will definitely act on it next time.
Thank you
