sainsburys roundabouts...!
- K (11th Sep 2014 - 21:10:14)

hi,

i was just wondering if there is anyone out there that can help me...

i live near the sainsburys roundabouts for many years now and im FED up with the way people drive round them...its not just the 'boy racers' its almost anyone in a car...

the roundabouts are used like a racing track...i have nearly been hit by drivers coming from the pet shop way to sainsburys as i have gone to cross the road with my elderly dog who does not walk that fast...!

and tonight about half hour ago my neighbours puppy was HIT by a woman driving a black 4x4 who DIDNT stop...coming the same way...!

now my question is...what can be done to slow drivers down around this area i have had enough...?

i was wondering if 'sleeping policemen' could be put out...?or zedbra crossings...?i am happy to put a cctv camera outside my home...?

but im not sure how to go about any of these so if you could help that would be great...?

many thanks

I totally agree with what you are saying. Another thing drivers do is cut through where the fire station is and race to the junction where the Pet Shop is and vice a versa - there will be an awful accident one day. Why can`t drivers have patience.

Were you on the pedestrian crossing? I am confused as to where you mean.

K,

I think you may be forgetting that you don't live on a small residential road, but on the main road through the centre of Liphook. The speed limit is 30mph, and whilst I don't doubt there are some boy racers, I do not often see anyone driving over 30mph.

With this speed limit, sleeping policemen would be completely inappropriate! This stretch of road is also not an extremely busy crossing place so it seems highly unlikely that a zebra crossing would be deemed appropriate either.

Crossing on the roundabouts is perfectly safe and there's a good enough view of the road to cross safely in these places when there's a gap in the traffic.

As for your neighbours puppy - it is extremely sad that it was hit, and terrible that the driver didn't stop, but does make me wonder why the puppy was in the road on it's own in the first place! I don't think you can blame the road for that!

There was one household on that road who used to (maybe still does) open their front door and let the dog out for a stretch on it's own - had it trained to cross the road onto the green and back! Which just makes me feel that maybe pedestrians need to take a bit more responsibility and realise that you are living on a busy, main road in the centre of town - and should exercise some more caution when crossing it!

about my neighbour's puppy i can not say much about it as i wasnt there...i only HEARD the bang and then the scream/cry from the puppy, then spoke to him and he told me what happened...?

i dont know anyone along here who has a dog like that...?

well if none of my ideas will work...then what about a BIG sign just before/near the junction (in the direction im talking about) saying watch out for pedestrians...?

as i have watched drivers come up from that way and theres been no cars on the other junctions and they havent even SLOWED down just incase there are pedestrians at the crossings which are ON the junctions...!

i just know theres going to be a more larger accident at some point and i just dont know what to do...?

It's not just the speeding. I'm sure a great deal of the vehicles using the roundabouts would fail an M.O.T. as their indicators don't work. ........Or are the drivers not using them?

How is the puppy???

Unfortunately, zebra crossings wouldn't work as drivers don't think they need to stop at the one in Liphook, even when pedestrians are already crossing.

I think I must have driven passed just before the puppy was hit - the owner was encouraging it to go to the central reservation and back and I saw it twice nearly get hit - he was calling it back when a car came - cars coming round the corner were breaking hard to avoid it and they were going slow - this is irresponsible not fair on the puppy and not fair on the drivers. He is the same chap ( I've seen him with an older black spaniel) who lets his dog go to sainsburys with him without a lead then expects it to wait at the entrance - it doesn't and the security guard ends up chasing it! Then it's in the car park dodging the cars! I hope the puppy is ok :(

helen, like i said i was not outside when the puppy got hit, so i dont know if they are the same as your talking about...sorry?

i know about indicaters theres another whole thread about cars in liphook without them...?

i have seen the puppy out on the green and looks ok, i have been told by a friend he is on medication though.

during the day most of the drivers DO stick to the speed limit, but when the roads start to go quiet not many of them do sadly...?

some days i wish i had my own 'speed camera' to catch them and the amount who drive with a phone to their ear...?

so what are my chances of maybe getting a sign saying 'watch out for pedestrians'

thanks
