Litter clear up under the A3 Bridge
- Roger Miller (10th Sep 2014 - 12:17:01)

I have noticed that a substantial amount of litter has been deposited under the A3 Bridge where it passes over the River Wey.
This litter is not only unsightly, does not help the environment and may cause injury to dogs being walked along this footpath which leads from London Road up to the St Mary’s Churchyard.
I think it is the residue of a party being held under the bridge by some young people last weekend.
It is my intention to clear the litter together with a Sainsbury’s supermarket trolley thrown in to the river.
I will be commencing the clearing up this forthcoming Saturday starting at 10.00am. and anticipate that it will take about an hour to complete.
If there are any readers of Talkback who would like to join me in this clear up work I would be pleased to see you there. If you are coming please bring a heavy duty plastic bag and wear a pair of gloves.
I will take the collected rubbish to the tip at Bordon.

Hi

Can i just add please,...Be Very careful with the litter, there could very well be used Needles there!...I have at times walked through that way, there is alot of empty Alchohol cans and Bottles, and can tell you, that it isnt from a recent party, there are always youngsters there, and i have even came across, a well known, Liphook bred gentleman, standing, and drinking alcohol!
when i asked some of the local lads, about under the bridge, their reply was "thats where the heroin addicts go, and there are lots of used needles there".....true or false, i dont know, but please be careful!

Ok Roger, typically public spirited of you ! I'll endeavour to be there to help you on Saturday, Some of the art there, although mainly cliched, is not without merit, we may yet find a local "Banksy" ! I'll be taking my merry troup of Wednesday Walkers through there soon so it will be nice to have it looking like a respectable East End gallery.

If you have time this morning from 10.00 am to help litter cleaning that would be very appreciated.

I am pleased to say that we have now cleared the litter on the footpaths and adjacent areas under the A3 bridge.
Very many thanks to Keith,Tony, Jeff, Max, Roman, Jeanette and Phil who helped.
Every effort was made to clear the footpaths of broken glass, but please be vigilant when walking your dog as some shards may be left.
We filled 14 large plastic waste bags and retrieved the Sainsbury's trolley from the river.
All waste has been sorted and recycled where possible and the trolley has been returned to Sainsbury's.
If would be a good idea to monitor the situation and if any walkers happen to see the young people meeting under the bridge a polite reminder to them to take their rubbish home would be helpful.
