Radford Park to Hewshott lane
- Charlie (7th Sep 2014 - 19:05:40)

Hi,

Is it possible to walk through Radford Park on to Hewshott lane? Also wondering how to get on foot from Liphook down to Bramshott common area? I'm not very local & I'd like to find some new walking routes. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Unfortunately it is not possible to connect up from Radford Park to Hewshott Lane via a footpath, nice as it would be. You can only reach Hewshott Lane by exiting Radford Park on London Road and walking along the pavement..

A short way along Hewshott Lane, and between some cottages, you can access a footpath which leads towards the camping site. Turn left past the reception and go along the quiet country lane and through the gate at the end. From there, the footpaths will take you up onto the south side of Bramshott Common.

If you make your way towards the sound of the A3 traffic, you will find an underpass (near a small car park and memorial stone for Canadian soldiers who died in WW1) which will take you through to the north side of the common which links up with Waggoner's Wells and Grayshott Common.

Happy exploring!

Yes it's possible.
Walk right out of Radford Park to Hewshot Lane. Dogs need to be on lead as busy main road.
Look for a place called Hewshotts.
Keep your dogs on lead .
Walk up drive way till you find the half moon shaped gate.
Close gate behind you.
Walk to next gate. Close gate behind you.
Walk to the next gate which brings you to the caravan park.
If g ate not fixed walk round fallen tree in to field.
Turn left at the first house, walk up road the turn left at top of road.
Walk down the long road till you find the big gate leading you to the south bound side of Bramshott Common.

Follow the path round to right. Take second left. Walk to tarmac road. If you follow various paths they will all take you back to this main path.
Turn left at the tarmac road.
Follow to main road. Turn right find Canadian memorial and bench. To the right of here is the tunnel to the North bound side of Bramshott Common. Follow the stoney path will bring you out are the old football pitch and tarmac road on North bound side.

Takes about 1-1 and a half hours to walk from Radford to North bound Bramshott common football pitch.

I walk loads in this area and find all my routes by studying OS (Ordnance Survey) maps!! I would suggest you do the same!!
Happy walking!!

Try the Parish Office (Haskell Centre, Midhurst Road) open in the mornings. They have a couple of leaflets outlining good walks. Also check out the Shipwrights Way (start off Portsmouth Road or Deers Hut), Sussex Border Path and the Serpents Trail (on the south side of Liphook in the National Park, These are all well signposted

There's the exclusive gate to the old people village just beyond the duck pond.
You used to be able to wander up there to a big field, the dog walkers used it, but I don't know if it led through to Hewshott Lane or not.
The developers walled and gated it off when the old people's town (yes it has it's own bank, shop etc) building started and someone said it was just for 'our safety during building works', but would be opened up again once they were completed. Looks like we were fooled again (remember the promised swimming pool fiasco?). No Liphook riff raff in their town, thank you and another footpath lost.
I think there's a law that says if a path has been used by the public for at least 20 years, it becomes a right of way, I wonder if we could invoke that to get it reoppened?

Another curious point is that I have an old map (somewhere) which shows that if you walk along Hewshott Lane parralell to the A3 and keep walking straight on (where the road bears right) there is a public footpath leading through to Bramshott Common. When I tried it, the path had been closed off and unbelievably rerouted along the new A3 (where there is no footpath, so you'd be forced to walk on the slow lane), then there are some steps leading into Bramshott Common off of the A3.

Who on earth thought that was a good idea? It made much more sense where it was!

Openstreetmap is a good web based source for finding rights of ways as it shows all the footpaths and bridleways.

Just to add to \"Z\" instructions..
When you get to the end of the parth that runs next to the caravan park head across the field towards the radio mast which is at the entrance to the caravan park.
Exit the caravan park and turn immediately left on the road which runs a short distance towaards a double gate.
Go thru the small gate and onto a footpath Follow the path until you come to a MOD vehicle track leading off to the right. There are also many tracks leading off, but the vehicle track is
the easiest to follow and it leads directly to the remains of a road at the old Army camp.
If you turn right and follow the remains of the old road, you will eventually come to a well defined track leading to the right and down the hill. This path eventually comes out at the side of a house on Hammer Vale Road. If you turn right when reaching the road you can walk a short distance to The Prince of Wales pub and build up your strength for the walk back.
Getting back to the old Army road.
Turning left at this old road will lead you directly to the Canadan Memorial before the underpass under the A3 and If you turn left immediately after going thru the underpass you will find another vehicle track which leads to a gate leading you to the A3 and the tarred footpath down the side of the A3 to Liphook.
You can turn right after exiting the gate and follow the road until it meets Rectory Lane leading to Bramshot. If you ignore the road going to Bramshot you will eventually come to a car parking area with foot paths leading to Wagoners Wells.
Enjoy exploring the area.

To support Tonys point about the footpath which has been rerouted onto A3 carriageway is a crazy and dangerous set up!

I had the misery of trying to use this the other day and it ended rather unhappily. I can't seem to find whether this is or isn't an existing footpath officially? And should it run onto the A3 or has it been blocked off by the fencing to the houses eg woodlands.

Anyone know how I could find out more?
