Walks around Longmoor Range
- Jane (16th Mar 2016  20:03:18)

Can you walk around the outside of Longmoor Range and if so where can you access the entry to the walk from.

I walk around the ranges for exercise. It takes me about 2 hours to complete the circuit from my front door. I live in Passfield and access the ranges from the path by the side of the old Passfield oak pub. The ranges can also be access from Conford. Or ther is is a footpath at Griggs Green off the main road opposite a White House with a footbridge that takes you over the A3 - but then ther is a rather muddy cycleway that takes you down to the same Conford access point (since the MOD blocked off the old gateway.) There is a car park on the A325 at Greatham, going towards Bordon. Ther are also footpaths from the liphook road at Whitehall.

It can also be accessed from the south. There is s pubic right of way across the ranges from Conford to what was Longmoor Road. This meant that when they build the A3 bypass they had to install a public access gate in the boundary fence. It is conveniently located at the top of a steep cutting just to the east of the Longmoor military bridge.

The army have recently fenced off the area at the top of the hill where you could access the range track from crossing the bridge over the A3.

You now have to walk down the hill on a horrible muddy path (Holly Hills) and use the gate at the bottom of the hill on the bend.

Many thanks for your replies. I have been to look at the path from Passfield but not sure where I should go after walking past the houses on the right hand side. Do you know of a map showing the route or could you possible give me a bit more information on the route to the Longmoor Range path.

Hi

Keep the houses to your right and the path heads straight downhill (you will leave the houses behind at this point). It also branches left forwards conford, but head straight downhill. After a couple of minutes you will cross a stream via a wooden ford/bridge. Follow the path straight ahead and uphill. You will see the old railway bridge ahead of you. Pass through this and you are on the path around the ranges.

Jane - I should add that although the path around the ranges is hardstanding, the woodland paths that lead to it are very low lying and are more like shin deep mud soup at the moment!

I prefer to wearing walking boots - but you really need shin high wellingtons to walk there at the moment.
