"Every day new medical treatments are being developed and more operations are being carried out. So not surprisingly, we constantly need donations for these vital procedures. About 2.1 million a year, to be exact.
And it's not as if it's a difficult thing to do. When you show up, we'll ask a few questions about your health and lifestyle (just to make sure you haven't been exposed to anything infectious). We'll take a drop of blood from your finger to make sure you're not anaemic. And then we'll take your blood donation which is just under a pint. This should take about 10 minutes.
And most people don't feel a thing. Apart from a terrific sense of well-being that they've helped save a life, that is."
